Successful Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit Held, Emphasizing Security as the Foundation for Growth in the AI Era

Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit: A New Dawn in Cybersecurity

The Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit, part of the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026, recently took place with significant success. The central theme of the event, "Security and Resilience for Networks: A Smart New Growth for Operators," has stood out, drawing attention to the critical role of robust and secure IP networks in nurturing growth amid an expanding digital landscape dominated by artificial intelligence (AI).

At the summit, GSMA Intelligence presented its newly published global cybersecurity report. This report marked the first instance of a worldwide evaluation of the cyber threat landscape and the necessity for operators to embrace secure network infrastructures while leveraging AI for business growth. In collaboration with ITU-T SG13, the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBBA) initiated a joint endeavor urging global operators to fortify their network infrastructures against emerging security risks that accompany the AI age.

During the summit, representatives from ITU-T SG13 and AV-TEST shared insights regarding the evolving threat environment fueled by AI. They emphasized the disruption of traditional attack-defense balances, often amplified by AI's capability to accelerate and extend the scope of cyberattacks. It became clear that security and resilience must be prioritized right from the design stages of network architecture.

GSMA Intelligence released a technical report titled, "Target Architecture for Telecom Cybersecurity," which outlines two vital components for modern telecom networks. First, the Local Security approach insists on integrating security throughout all phases— from design and manufacturing to installation and operation. Second, the Deep Defense strategy provides multilayered, domain-based protection against complex and persistent threats. Notably, the report warned operators about potential threats arising from quantum computing, underlining the importance of adopting new cryptographic algorithms to withstand probable future attacks facilitated by quantum computers.

Concurrently, ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launched the initiative, "Let’s Build Resilient and Secure IP Networks Together," encouraging operators to enhance cybersecurity and resilience to guarantee high service reliability and continuity in the age of AI.

Amid these developments, Leon Wang, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Group, highlighted the transformative role of AI from a tool of efficiency to a revenue-generating engine for networks, asserting that sustainable growth must be grounded in security and resilience. His remarks were complemented by John Cai, Vice President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Group, who elaborated on the updated Huawei NG WAN Solution.

Furthermore, high-profile representatives from leading global telecom operators shared their strategic roadmaps and innovative applications in the fields of network security resilience and autonomous network technologies. The IPv6 Forum Chair recognized standout operator representatives with awards, including the National Network Resilience Policy Pioneer award presented to Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA). Mühendis Shamroukh, the Executive Director and CEO of NTRA, remarked that the award recognized exceptional efforts to create resilient and secure IP networks while enhancing children's online safety initiatives.

Such awards underline a collective commitment across the industry to maintain service continuity through security and resilience while promoting business growth through intelligent network operations.

In summary, the successful Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit not only delineated a clear developmental path for network security in an AI-driven world but also signaled a rapid progression towards a new intelligent era marked by high quality, security, and resilience in global telecom networks.
