Huawei's NG WAN Solutions Drive Growth for Telecommunications Operators Worldwide

Huawei's NG WAN Solutions Drive Commercial Growth

On October 13, John Cai, the Vice President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, delivered a significant keynote speech at the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit during the Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026. Highlighting the essential role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping a resilient future, he noted that the large-scale deployment of the next-generation wide area network (NG WAN) solutions marks a pivotal step towards the full commercialization of this transformative technology. With aspirations to collaboratively strengthen industry foundations, Huawei is positioning itself to support mutual growth in the age of AI.

Multi-Layered Security and Robust Architecture

Huawei’s NG WAN solution implements a multi-layered security framework that encompasses devices, connections, and service levels. At the device level, Huawei introduces its innovative RDR solution, which operates independently from the router's operating system. Utilizing independent threat protection units (TPUs) and a multimodal behavior recognition algorithm, this solution successfully detects over 95% of threats and tracks advanced persistent threats (APTs) within minutes. Moreover, the proprietary neural processor technology, paired with intelligent flow control algorithms, enables the identification of attacks within seconds and aims to reduce the risk of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks by 90%. Over a three-month period with a leading Chinese operator, TPUs thwarted 324 attacks originating from eight different countries.

In terms of connection security, all Huawei devices support post-quantum cryptography, enhancing encryption performance by 40%. The industry’s first integrated Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solution facilitates three-channel integration, lowering network construction costs by 60% and surpassing the 80 km transmission distance limit. Notably, Huawei collaborated with an operator in Macau to launch the world’s first quantum-secured target network, resulting in a 50% increase in revenue from private lines.

For service-level responses, Huawei’s deep defense mechanism, structured as “1+4,” reduces reaction time to border DDoS attacks from one minute to under five seconds. It improves detection of unknown threats by 15%, achieves a 100% detection rate for ransomware, and minimizes threat resolution time to less than 30 minutes through its Cyber Threat Security Operations Center (CT-SOC).

Unlocking Full Computational Potential with AI

As AI technologies become more entrenched in business processes, the NG WAN solution addresses network sensitivity to packet loss. Even a 0.1% loss can drastically diminish computational efficiency by up to 55%. Leveraging AI Fabric, Huawei’s NG WAN enhances computational performance with a simplified two-layer architecture. This design quadruples network scope while cutting hardware consumption by 30%. The Network Packet Load Balancing (NPLB) feature ensures that across the network, connection utilization reaches 98%, boosting training and inference performance by more than 7%. The zero-loss Starnet algorithm maintains complete packet integrity over distances of up to 1000 kilometers, achieving a remote computational efficiency exceeding 96%. Consequently, operators can offer local-like connectivity experiences, accelerating revenue generation in the business-to-business (ToB) segment. One Chinese operator applied this solution to support a healthcare initiative, cutting hospital computing costs by 30% while quintupling average revenue per user (ARPU) for private lines.

A New Era of Network Autonomy

Huawei’s autonomous network architecture, known as “one map, one brain,” reaches AN L4 levels across several key areas such as troubleshooting, network alterations, optimization, and security. The automation of network changes involves closed-loop operations, configuration validation, simulation, and comparative analysis. In terms of security, it delivers intrusion detection, attack monitoring, and one-click blocking within minutes, helping operators attain unprecedented levels of network autonomy. A South African operator notably became the first in the world to achieve AN L4 autonomy within its IP network.

Globally, over 60 operators have initiated the use of Huawei’s NG WAN solutions. By continuously innovating in lossless computational efficiency, multi-layered security, and network autonomy, Huawei is revolutionizing operator strategies in the AI landscape—from optimizing efficiency to creating value, hence establishing a solid and resilient network foundation designed for the AI era.

Looking ahead, Huawei is committed to collaborating with industry partners to expedite the global deployment of NG WAN solutions, paving the way for the development of safe, resilient, intelligent, and efficient next-generation carrier networks that will enhance operator growth in the age of AI.
