Carillon Technologies Unveils ReflecTek™: A GameChanger for Cost-Efficient Satellite Terminals at ARRAY2026

Carillon Technologies to Present ReflecTek™ Technology

At the upcoming IEEE International Phased Array Symposium, known as ARRAY2026, Carillon Technologies is set to reveal its innovative ReflecTek™ electronically steerable satellite terminal technology. Scheduled for October 19-22, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts, this groundbreaking technology aims to address substantial barriers faced by the broadband satellite communications sector, particularly regarding cost, power consumption, and complexity.

According to Dr. John R. Sanford, Carillon’s Chief Technology Officer, the ReflecTek™ system is not only crucial for current satellite communication challenges but is also a game changer that could lead to widespread adoption of broadband services globally. This is particularly vital for underserved markets that have historically lacked access to reliable communications due to the high costs associated with existing technology.

Key Innovations of ReflecTek™

ReflecTek™ utilizes a scalable reflect-array architecture that is produced using standard printed circuit board processes. This results in streamlined manufacturing that significantly reduces both the costs and power needs of broadband satellite terminals. The architecture embeds liquid crystal into circuit boards, enabling terminals to be lighter, cheaper, and much less power-hungry than traditional options.

The implications of these advancements are enormous. Lower production costs can potentially create a new economic model for broadband satellite services, making them accessible to a wider audience. In particular, this technology could invigorate the direct-to-device market and expand satellite-based broadband in less developed regions—an area estimated to exceed $100 billion annually.

One of the defining aspects of ReflecTek™ is its architecture which eliminates the use of complex element-level electronics such as MMICs and varactors. As a result, Carillon Technologies can manufacture user-friendly terminals that don't require nuanced installation or bulky hardware, making them affordable and accessible for everyday users.
