Highlights from the Successful Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit Focused on AI-Era Security

Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit: A Step into the Future

The recently concluded Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit stood out as a pivotal event at the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026. The summit underscored the theme "Security and Resilience for Networks, Smart New Growth for Carriers". It gathered experts from around the globe to interpret a newly released cybersecurity white paper from GSMA Intelligence focusing on the evolving landscape of network security amidst the AI revolution.

One of the major highlights included the collaboration between ITU-T SG13 and WBBA, who jointly called upon global telecom operators. Their initiative emphasized the necessity to establish a secure and resilient network framework, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) for new business models while simultaneously addressing emerging security risks.

As AI continues to reshape various industries, it has also brought significant changes to the dynamics of cybersecurity. Representatives from ITU-T SG13 and AV-TEST discussed how the advent of AI has not only intensified the frequency of cyberattacks but has also altered the traditional equilibrium between offensive and defensive measures. As such, the assembly recognized security and resilience as critical strategic goals that should be ingrained into the core architecture of networks from the outset.

The GSMA Intelligence white paper made a compelling case for two foundational elements vital for modern telecommunications: Native Security and In-depth Defense. Native Security suggests that security measures should be built into network components from their design and production phases until their deployment and ongoing operation. In-depth Defense provides a multi-layered shield against sophisticated and persistent cyber threats.

Additional insights highlighted the emerging challenge of quantum computing decrypting threats, urging carriers to implement new cryptographic protocols that can withstand potential future attacks. By incorporating such advanced security measures, telecom networks can better prepare for disruptive events.

Following this, ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launched the "Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together" initiative—aiming to fortify network security and reliability in the age of AI. Leon Wang, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, emphasized the transformation of AI into a monetization engine for networks while stressing the critical importance of a secure and resilient infrastructure for sustainable growth.

To bolster this objective, John Cai, Huawei's Vice President of Data Communication, elaborated on the enhanced Huawei NG WAN Solution, which is designed to support this transition.

The summit also featured presentations from executives of leading global carriers, who shared their comprehensive strategies for enhancing network resilience and the automation of networking processes. A notable recognition during the event was the award presented by the President of the IPv6 Forum to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt. This acknowledgment was for their commendable developments in national network resilience policies, particularly in initiatives aimed at enhancing child online safety.

In summary, the accomplishments of the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit not only set a definitive course for network security strategies in the AI era but also illustrated the pressing need for global telecom networks to evolve into intelligent frameworks characterized by high security, quality, and resilience. This transition is imperative not only for maintaining service continuity but also for fostering economic growth through intelligent network solutions.
