BMW Diners Card Transitioning to Biomass Material

On August 3, 2026, the BMW Diners Card will undergo a significant transformation by introducing a new biomass card that incorporates plant-based materials. This innovative step is taken in collaboration with Mitsui Sumitomo Trust Club Co., Ltd., led by President Nobuaki Yamaguchi, and BMW Japan Finance Co., Ltd., a fully-owned subsidiary of BMW Group, headed by President François Maury. The initiative strengthens the commitment to sustainability that is at the core of the BMW Group's strategy.

What is a Biomass Card?

The BMW Diners Card will now include materials derived from biomass in its composition, accounting for approximately 25% by weight. This conversion is designed to offset carbon emissions produced during incineration with the CO2 absorption capacity of growing plants. The new card features tap payment functionality, allowing users to enjoy the convenience while contributing to CO2 emissions reduction. Notably, each biomass card is expected to decrease CO2 emissions by around 3.9 grams compared to traditional petroleum-based contactless credit cards.
