Amanda Raff, M.D. Appointed as Senior Associate Dean at Einstein College of Medicine
In a significant move for the medical education sector, Albert Einstein College of Medicine has recently appointed Amanda Raff, M.D., a 1998 graduate of the institution, as the new Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, effective from July 1, 2025. Dr. Raff, who has served as the interim associate dean since December 2024, stands as a testament to the institution's commitment to leadership excellence in medical education.
Dr. Raff's career spans nearly two decades of dedicated service to the College of Medicine, where she has held several pivotal roles, including the Professor of Medicine and Associate Chair for undergraduate medical education. Her experience and commitment to teaching have made her a well-respected figure within the academic community, demonstrating stellar institutional service and citizenship.
Yaron Tomer, M.D., the Dean of Einstein and Chief Academic Officer at Montefiore Einstein, praised Dr. Raff's appointment following an extensive national search for the position. "After careful consideration, it became clear that Dr. Raff was the ideal candidate to lead our medical education initiatives," he remarked. This sentiment is echoed by Yoon Kang, M.D., Vice Dean for Education, who highlighted Dr. Raff's recognized contributions to teaching at the college.
In her new role, Dr. Raff will oversee all curricular operations and governance related to the M.D. programs, dedicating her efforts to enhance medical education strategies, faculty mentorship, and student engagement. Throughout her career, Dr. Raff has demonstrated her prowess as a leader; she has directed the first-year renal course since 2007 and has been at the helm of the internal medicine clerkship and acting internship since 2012. Additionally, she actively mentors students involved in various medical interest groups.
Among her many accolades, Dr. Raff has been recognized with several prestigious teaching awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Samuel M. Rosen Outstanding Teacher Award for Excellence in Basic Science.
Expressing her enthusiasm for her new responsibilities, Dr. Raff stated, "I am excited to take on this new role and collaborate with my colleagues and students to further enhance the quality of our educational programs and realize our mission."
In addition to her administrative role, Dr. Raff is a practicing nephrologist at Montefiore and holds fellowship status in the American College of Physicians (ACP). She is actively involved in important research initiatives focused on improving student guidance for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and leads the Montefiore Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease program.
Dr. Raff's educational journey began at Indiana University, where she earned her B.S. in biology before completing her M.D. at Einstein. Her residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital was followed by a chief resident position at New York University Downtown Hospital, and she completed her nephrology fellowship at Montefiore Einstein. Joining the faculty at Einstein in 2004, she has since contributed immensely to the institution's educational framework.
