Okayama University's Commitment to Research Innovation through J-PEAKS Initiatives

On December 22, 2023, Okayama University, led by President Nasu Yoshitomo, was selected to participate in the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's initiative called J-PEAKS, aimed at enhancing research universities with unique regional characteristics. This initiative supports Okayama University's vision to contribute to global innovation and co-create a sustainable future for the region and the planet by the year 2050.

To effectively implement the J-PEAKS initiative, broad engagement among all university stakeholders is essential. Following last year's discussions, workshops have been organized this year involving young researchers from the Okayama University Academy of Young Scientists, as well as senior administrative staff including chief examiners and coordinators.

The first workshop, focused on the theme "What can be done now for securing research time and identifying deficiencies," took place at Okayama University's Tsushima Campus. During the workshop, researchers and administrative staff engaged in discussions around the principal topics. President Nasu actively participated by visiting each group, where participants seized the opportunity to seek his insights and ask questions, fostering a deeper dialogue.

Final discussions led to presentations from each group followed by feedback from President Nasu, marking the end of the workshop. Suggestions proposed during the session included discussions about the specialization of faculty roles and streamlining administrative procedures to ensure more time for research.
