The Background of Enoden
Enoshima Electric Railway operates a notable rail line connecting the picturesque Shōnan-Fujisawa area with the historic city of Kamakura, spanning approximately
10 kilometers. Well-loved for its dramatic scenery—including tunnels, ocean views, and iconic landmarks like Enoshima Island—Enoden is more than just rail transport; it also plays a vital role in the local tourism industry and evolving micro-mobility services. Furthermore, they are actively involved in bus services around the Yokohama and Shōnan areas, aiming to revitalize the entire Enoden region.
Recognizing the necessity for systemic change, Enoden has set an ambitious vision: by
2035, every employee will become a ‘regional producer’ while expanding the scale of their business. This transformative goal has prompted the formation of a task force within the company to address the challenges of fostering innovation and new ideas.
Challenges to Overcome
A significant hurdle faced by Enoden employees is the psychological barrier surrounding the expression of individual opinions and generating fresh ideas, especially given the company's infrastructure background. There is a noticeable gap in understanding how to diverge from existing business practices to create new concepts. CGO Dotcom was called on to design a program that would enable employees to think about the company’s future confidently and collaboratively.
Program Objectives and Structure
The program's primary goals were:
1. To enhance the ability of employees to provide output based on their individual perspectives.
2. To cultivate a communication culture that encourages the sharing of these personal viewpoints.
Drawing from interviews with key personnel, CGO Dotcom crafted a
Galstyle brainstorming program aimed at generating ideas in a relaxing atmosphere of open communication.
Implementation Report: Galstyle Brainstorming
The
Galstyle Brainstorming session took place in
October 2025 at Enoden, structured in four main steps:

Self-Presentation Phase: Attendees shared their personal favorites to build mutual understanding.
2.
Company Overview: A brief presentation helped align the participants on the company’s unique character.
3.
Future-Oriented Ideation: Participants freely brainstormed exciting ideas regarding Kamakura and Enoshima, based on their individual perspectives.
4.
Creative Expression: Each participant documented and presented one original idea based on the previous brainstorming.
Outcomes of the Initiative
One striking theme titled “What’s Exciting about Enoshima?” yielded several quirky ideas, including:

- - A monk delivering humorous sermons.
- - Mornings at 20°C with gentle sea breezes.
- - An almost Hawaii-like atmosphere.
Another exciting theme titled “What Makes the Future of Kamakura and Enoshima Thrilling?” resulted in intriguing suggestions like:
- - A tug-of-war competition on the Enoshima Bridge.
- - Bus displays resembling love letters.
- - A pink ocean.
- - A DJ session hosted by monks.
Specific ideas generated from the brainstorming included:
- - “Seagulls, beware! You have no place here!” (Participants would hold food replicas at the beach while fending off seagulls.)
- - “SUNSET BOUZU DJ Festival!” (A festival where monks DJ against the backdrop of the sunset.)
- - “Japan's most emotional group date! On the Enoden train while enjoying nature!”
Participants focused on emotions rather than practicality during brainstorming, which led to an influx of ideas that showcased Enoshima’s charm.
Combining personal perspectives with the organization’s values facilitated a connection between functional and emotional values, resulting in novel value creation. The Galstyle methodology fostered an inclusive environment where all members, regardless of age or title, felt comfortable sharing their thoughts. Consequently, this initiative invigorated interdepartmental relationships within the organization.
Following the event, an evaluation revealed that
82.4% of participants felt they could express their views freely, while
100% acknowledged they could speak without being tethered to traditional constraints. The overall satisfaction rate reached
93%, reflecting a highly successful event, with many participants appreciating the liberating atmosphere that facilitated genuine self-expression.
