Thermos Unveils 2025 Sustainability Achievements
As a global leader in thermal insulation, Thermos Ltd. has remained dedicated to promoting eco-friendly lifestyles under the sustainability theme, "Thermos: Kind to People and the Environment." With June 5th being World Environment Day as designated by the United Nations, Thermos believes that delivering products and services that enhance comfort while minimizing environmental impacts is an essential mission. This article highlights three key sustainability initiatives the company is undertaking in 2025.
1. Stainless Steel Vacuum Bottle Recycling Service
In May 2023, Thermos launched a recycling service for used stainless steel vacuum bottles at its direct retail stores. This program focuses on collecting various stainless steel products, including bottles, tumblers, cups, and soup jars.
By expanding collection points to include sports facilities operated by partner professional sports teams and home game venues, Thermos aims to enhance the volume of recycled materials. The projected annual collection for 2025 is approximately 2,200 kg, bringing the cumulative total collected since the commencement of the service to nearly 3,900 kg.
Customers and partners are encouraged to participate in this initiative to progress towards a circular economy. After recycling the collected plastic parts, some will be transformed into promotional items, such as magnet clips, to be distributed during various events.
Achievement Details:
- - Cumulative Collection Amount: Approximately 3,900 kg (equivalent to around 18,000 units of Thermos' JNL series 0.5L size).
- - Collection Period: May 2023 - May 2026.
- - Collection Locations: Thermos direct stores, sports game locations (such as Kawasaki Frontale and Alvark Tokyo home games), and various event venues.
- - Target Products: Used bottles, tumblers, cups, and soup jars of vacuum-insulated design, including items from other manufacturers.

2. Launch of Drink Container Reuse Service
Beginning October 2025, Thermos is set to officially introduce a drink container reuse service aimed at reducing the use of disposable containers at home game events. This program involves lending vacuum-insulated tumblers at no cost, particularly at the new home arena of Alvark Tokyo, Toyota Arena Tokyo.
As the season progresses, the number of users taking advantage of this service has steadily increased. Feedback reveals that patrons appreciate the environmental consciousness and the vacuum-insulation that maintains the temperature of beverages during games. In the 2025-26 season, the reuse container return rate achieved approximately 99%, marking a crucial step towards establishing this initiative as a sustainable service.
Key Achievements:
- - Total Containers Loaned: About 3,100.
- - Total Users: Approximately 1,800 from October 2025 to April 2026.
User Survey Results:
- - 83% indicated they would like to continue using the drink container reuse service.
Reasons for Use (Top 4 Responses):
- - Believed it to be environmentally friendly.
- - Expected it would keep drinks at the right temperature.
- - Free service.
- - Discounts offered on drinks.
3. Support for Children’s Food Kitchens in Iwate and Niigata Prefectures
In addressing the operational challenges faced by children’s food kitchens, such as rising costs and cooking workload, Thermos plans to donate cooking equipment, including frying pans, starting in 2024.
In the 2025 fiscal year, Thermos will provide cooking tools to approximately 110 children’s food kitchens in Iwate Prefecture in October and around 70 in Niigata Prefecture in March 2026. The aim is to shorten preparation times and enhance communication opportunities between community members and children through the effective use of these tools.
Thermos envisions the continuation of warm meals contributing to a cycle of smiles and connections.
