The Ellinikon Sports Park Opens to the Public
The long-awaited Sports Park at The Ellinikon, Europe's largest urban regeneration project spearheaded by LAMDA Development, has finally opened its doors to the public. This impressive park spans a vast area of 287,000 square meters and includes a range of facilities designed for both elite athletes and casual sports enthusiasts. With its grand opening, the park is set to play a pivotal role in transforming the area, once home to Athens' former international airport, into a progressive coastal city.
An Open Space for All
The design of the Sports Park emphasizes accessibility and community engagement. It features fully equipped athletic fields, including soccer pitches, a throwing area, tennis courts, and basketball courts available for public use. The park also includes multi-purpose recreational spaces and expansive green areas totaling 115,000 square meters, offering a scenic environment for families, tourists, and local residents alike.
Earlier this year, the park showcased its potential to host international sporting events by successfully accommodating thousands of spectators during the "EKO Super Special Stage" of the 2026 Acropolis Rally, which is part of the FIA World Rally Championship. This event not only highlighted the venue's capabilities but also provided a glimpse into the various community programs and public events that will be hosted at the park in the future.
"The opening of the first phase of the Sports Park marks a significant and symbolic milestone for The Ellinikon," said Odisseas Athanasiou, CEO of LAMDA Development. "This is the moment when The Ellinikon truly opens its doors to the public, giving citizens the chance to experience the tangible beginnings of a new lifestyle emerging within this major urban regeneration project."
Continuing Development Across The Ellinikon
While the Sports Park has opened, construction progress continues across the entire Ellinikon project. Residential neighborhoods are expanding, shopping centers are nearing completion, and the Riviera Tower has reached its final height.
Recently launched is "The Courtyards," a new residential offering within the Little Athens neighborhood. Designed by the renowned Greek architectural firm AUDO Architects, this complex consists of 324 contemporary homes spread across 11 buildings, featuring one to four-bedroom apartments inspired by modern Mediterranean living. Select penthouses boast spacious rooftop terraces, while 35 ground-floor apartments enjoy private gardens equipped with either a pool or a jacuzzi, all with underground parking and designated storage spaces.
The first completed residential models from the Promenade Heights project have also been unveiled, allowing potential residents to experience first-hand the quality and craftsmanship that will characterize this neighborhood. The completion of initial residences is expected in early 2027, with more homes being delivered throughout the year.
Iconic Commercial Destinations Taking Shape
The construction of premier commercial destinations within The Ellinikon continues to progress. The upcoming luxury shopping and dining complex, Riviera Galleria, designed by acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is set to become a focal point of the area. Covering 23,000 square meters, Riviera Galleria aims to curate a refined selection of local and international brands in fashion, lifestyle, and gastronomy, designed to be enjoyed from day to night. The architectural canopies reflect the movement of water, enhancing the overall aesthetic experience. The completion of this development is projected for early 2027, with 76% of its leasing space already in principal agreements.
Simultaneously, the construction of The Ellinikon Mall, designed by internationally recognized architecture firm Aedas, has also commenced. This expansive space will feature a hybrid and sustainable design blending indoor and outdoor experiences, integrating shopping, dining, entertainment, and green public areas. With 70% of its leasing space already committed, it seeks to become Greece's largest modern shopping center by the time it opens in 2029.
The inauguration of the Sports Park, along with rapid developments across residential sectors, Riviera Tower, and commercial hubs like Riviera Galleria and The Ellinikon Mall, all serve as compelling evidence of The Ellinikon’s execution of one of the most ambitious mixed-use real estate projects in the world.
