Lactips and SmartSolve Unite in Major Effort to Eliminate Plastic Packaging

Strategic Partnership in Plastic-Free Packaging

In a groundbreaking collaboration, French innovator Lactips and American leader SmartSolve have announced a global strategic partnership aimed at eliminating plastic packaging. This initiative is born from a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions.

A New Era for Packaging

The partnership marks a significant milestone in the development of PureNil™ 0, which is claimed to be the world's first 100% plastic-free, biodegradable, printable, and flexible packaging substrate. Approved for direct food contact, PureNil™ 0 dissolves in water without leaving behind harmful microplastics, catering to a range of industries from cosmetics to food and beverages.

The collaboration began in 2024, and within less than two years, Lactips and SmartSolve have turned research and development into a commercial reality. Jonathan Jakubowski, CEO and co-founder of SmartSolve, emphasized the importance of this innovation, stating, “Lactips has provided what has been missing in the industry: a truly plastic-free, water-soluble material that meets commercial requirements.”

Future Prospects for Biodegradable Materials

The scope of this partnership extends beyond the initial product. Future generations of biobased packaging solutions without plastic content are anticipated. Alexis von Tschammer, CEO of Lactips, remarked that this exclusive agreement with SmartSolve represents a critical step in Lactips’ global expansion. “The collaboration positions us to make a lasting positive impact on industry practices and the environment,” he stated.

The Journey of Lactips

Founded in 2014 based on research from Frédéric Prochazka, Lactips has grown into a key player in the natural polymers sector. The company specializes in developing fully biodegradable products that are both water-soluble and composed entirely of natural ingredients. In 2022, Lactips transitioned into a fully industrial operation with the opening of its first manufacturing facility. Today, the company proudly employs a dedicated team of 40 individuals.

SmartSolve's Commitment to Green Solutions

Likewise, SmartSolve has made a name for itself by developing certified, fully biodegradable, water-soluble packaging solutions. With a focus on water-soluble papers, labels, and bags, SmartSolve operates out of a 55,000 square-foot facility in Bowling Green, Ohio. Co-founders Al Caperna and Jonathan Jakubowski have positioned the company as a leading supplier of patented biodegradable packaging.

Conclusion

The alliance between Lactips and SmartSolve is not just a response to the urgent need for sustainable packaging practices but signals a shift towards a greener future. As both companies work to bring innovative products to market, they highlight the ongoing struggle against plastic pollution and pave the way for environmentally friendly solutions. This partnership is a beacon of hope in the quest for a plastic-free world, proving that real change is possible through cooperation and innovation.
