Bird and Segway Partner to Launch Next-Gen Urban Mobility Fleet Across North America

Bird and Segway: Transforming Shared Mobility in North America

In a landmark collaboration, Bird, a pioneer in shared micromobility, has joined forces with Segway, a global leader in electric vehicle innovation. This strategic partnership aims to revolutionize urban transportation by introducing a new generation of advanced electric scooters and e-bikes across key markets in North America.

The upcoming fleet promises to set new standards in performance, safety, and sustainability, reflecting both companies’ commitment to enhancing urban mobility. With the launch of models such as the Bird Dash, Bird Explorer, and Bird Journey, riders can expect vehicles designed to meet a variety of commuting needs—ranging from daily commutes to leisurely rides. All models are equipped with upgraded durability, state-of-the-art safety features, and lower environmental impact, set to hit the streets this summer.

A Collaborative Effort to Innovate

Stewart Lyons, Co-CEO of Bird, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “This collaboration brings together the best of Bird and Segway: world-class technology, user-centric design, and innovation aimed at creating a more sustainable urban mobility landscape.” The combined expertise aims to improve accessibility to safe, reliable, and efficient transportation options in cities and towns worldwide.

Efficiency and Performance at Its Core

The new vehicles boast impressive specifications, including IPX7-rated waterproofing, enhanced structural integrity, and low-maintenance components designed to boost reliability and reduce operational costs. For instance, the Bird Journey e-bike features an impressive range of up to 90 kilometers on a single charge, facilitating longer rides with fewer battery replacements. The optimized energy consumption also reduces standby power usage, enhancing fleet efficiency. Such innovations are anticipated to significantly lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) while ensuring long-term value for both users and operators.

The initial response from riders has been overwhelmingly positive, showcasing a 40% increase in user engagement with these new models. Riders have expressed appreciation for the smooth riding experience, sleek design, and convenient features like the new mobile device charging station integrated into the vehicles.

Commitment to Safety and Compliance

All three models prioritize safety, equipped with advanced braking systems (dual drum + electric), bright LED lighting, and integrated sensors that detect sidewalks and pedestrians. This technology ensures that the vehicles give warnings and adjust speeds automatically to prevent collisions, surpassing industry safety standards and meeting certifications such as UL2272 and UL2849.

As Segway’s General Manager of the Sharing Business Division, Alan Zhao, remarked, “Segway has always pushed the boundaries of smart mobility. Partnering with Bird allows us to offer a smarter, safer riding experience tailored for the cities of today and expectations of tomorrow.”

Designed for a Sustainable Future

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of the new fleet. From using recycled materials and modular components to circular packaging and long-lasting batteries, these upgrades align with Bird and Segway’s shared mission to build a circular economy and promote environmentally friendly mobility on a large scale.

Together, Bird and Segway are redefining the possibilities of shared transportation, enabling cities and riders to embrace a smarter, safer, and more sustainable mode of movement. This launch represents just the beginning of their commitment to shape the future of micromobility.
