The Future of Smart Home Appliances
Beko, a leading international home appliance company, is set to launch an innovative feature called
FlexiStart, which empowers consumers to manage their energy consumption more effectively. Scheduled to become available in January 2027, this feature leverages Beko's
HomeWhiz app, allowing users to align the operation of their connected appliances with periods of lower electricity rates. This initiative is vital in aiding households to lower their electricity bills while simultaneously supporting the efficient management of power grids.
Optimizing Energy Costs
Understanding that electricity prices are not static throughout the day, FlexiStart is designed to exploit the natural fluctuations in electricity tariffs driven by varying demands. Generally, electricity prices soar during peak hours—typically in the morning and evening—when the demand surges, while they dip during off-peak times when the supply is adequate. With FlexiStart, households can benefit from these price drops by having their appliances run when it is more economical.
The HomeWhiz app will automatically analyze daily energy rates and recommend the optimal times for operating household appliances. Users can simply confirm these suggestions with a tap on their smartphones, and their appliances will wait to execute their cycles during the lower-cost intervals. For households on dynamic or time-of-use tariffs, this feature can directly influence their electricity bills positively.
Seamless Integration with Energy Providers
Crucially, FlexiStart is enhanced through partnerships with energy providers, initially launching in
Germany and
Türkiye. By integrating tariff prices directly into the HomeWhiz app, users will receive real-time updates about their energy costs, allowing them to make informed decisions about when to operate their devices. Moreover, households can input their tariff details manually if they are with a different energy supplier.
Appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, and tumble dryers will be the first to feature this technology, with plans for refrigerators and air conditioners to join the lineup later in the year. This integration aims not only to help consumers save money but also to encourage energy providers to promote more balanced demand on the grid. By aligning appliance usage with low-cost electricity periods, utilities can better manage supply and demand dynamics, thereby enhancing grid stability.
Highlighting Sustainability at COP31
In a significant move to showcase this technology's potential, Beko will present
FlexiStart at the upcoming COP31 event in
Antalya, Türkiye (November 9–20, 2026). The exhibition will underline how smart home appliances contribute to energy efficiency and sustainable living. As reliance on renewable energy sources intensifies, demand flexibility becomes critical for power infrastructure to adapt to varying energy production levels.
Ragıp Balcıoğlu, Beko's Global Chief Marketing Officer, emphasized the need for a small shift in when consumers use their appliances to make a substantial difference in energy consumption patterns. “A small shift in when households turn their appliances on can add up to real flexibility for the grid, and lower bills for the families who make it happen,” he stated. The underlying vision behind FlexiStart aligns with Beko’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in home appliance technology.
