DEATH NOTE Killer Within: Major Free Update

On August 27, 2025, Bandai Namco Entertainment announced a significant free update for their multiplayer game, DEATH NOTE Killer Within. Players can now immerse themselves in two new crucial character roles: X Kira and N, alongside an exciting new gameplay perspective — the 3D mode.

New Character Roles: X Kira and N

Introduction of X Kira

The character X Kira joins the ranks of the powerful roles in the game. Mirroring the original Kira, X Kira has the ability to execute judgments with the notorious Death Note. During the meeting phase, X Kira can select one player and, if that player is either the Chief or Investigator, they are appointed as a Kira follower. Note that pivotal characters such as L, N, Watari, and Mello cannot be designated as Kira followers. This addition enhances the intrigue and secretive strategies players can employ, as the transformed players remain undisclosed until the game's end, leading them closer to victory without being detected.

X Kira also has exclusive access to the command card, "False Surveillance Task." When activated, this allows them to summon multiple players under the guise of a surveillance task, getting close enough to steal identification from the player they wish to judge. This feature adds a layer of strategy and deception, enhancing the gameplay experience.

The Role of N

Joining X Kira is N, another key member of the L faction, allowing for near-similar abilities to L, such as guiding discussions and utilizing select command cards. N introduces commands like "SPK Tail" and "Money Bill Disruption" to swiftly expose Kira players.

The "SPK Tail" card enables N to track a player's daily activities for one day, revealing their actions in the meeting phase. This provides crucial information to help L's faction deduce if the player belongs to the Kira faction. The “Money Bill Disruption” command clouds opponents' screens with stacks of cash, obstructing their actions, making it a strategic escape tool during critical moments.

Experience New Perspectives with 3D Mode

The newly implemented 3D perspective mode drastically changes how players engage with the game. This mode allows the camera to follow the playable character while giving players the freedom to look around the environment. Now, players can spot distant competitors easily, adding to the tension of the gameplay. Watchful players might catch glimpses of Kira members, adding an element of paranoia and thrill to the experience.
