Overview of Hue-ish's EnGaze Program
Hue-ish Inc., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is set to launch a groundbreaking program called "EnGaze" aimed at enhancing the aesthetic sense of business leaders. Initiated in 2022 as a limited pilot program, it will become more widely available starting in 2025. This unique initiative is not merely about visiting different regions or interacting with companies from different sectors but is designed to challenge leaders' perspectives and strengthen their ability to make informed decisions in times of change.
The Need for an Aesthetic Sense in Leadership
In the era of AI advancement and increasing complexity in social challenges, the skills required of leaders are shifting significantly. Leaders are now expected to not only provide solutions but also to ask critical questions and explore answers collaboratively. As traditional success patterns become less applicable in complex, ambiguous environments, the ability to discern what is valuable becomes increasingly vital.
In environments where AI offers optimal solutions, human leaders must focus on their own perspectives—what they define as worthwhile and how they interpret meaning. This shift is essential, especially as more leaders face dilemmas regarding diverse values and unanswered questions. It has become paramount to challenge one’s own assumptions and preconceived notions.
At Hue-ish, we emphasize this re-evaluation of perspectives, referring to it as the "aesthetic sense." This concept embodies the ability to perceive the essence of things and decide what matters based on one’s own sensibility. In a time dominated by efficiency and technology, we believe that leaders must cultivate the ability to see the world through their own eyes.
The Power of Place: Breaking Away from Conventional Thinking
Regions offer a raw reflection of complex realities. They embody economies grounded in trust rather than mere systems, showcasing relationships among diverse generations and perspectives. Here, simplistic success models and efficiency-driven logic do not apply. Leaders are tested in their understanding and perception of these environments.
Moreover, regions are home to numerous "players" who think independently and take initiative. These individuals pose questions from outside the bounds of conventional wisdom and navigate conflicts and ambiguities with intention. Their insights can prove to be a strong stimulus that is often absent within corporate cultures.
By engaging with these perspectives and immersing themselves physically, participants begin to recognize their own biases and the limitations of their “norms.” Training the aesthetic sense involves confronting layered realities and reflecting on what they perceive as valuable and meaningful. This experiential learning forms the foundation essential for future leaders.
How Hue-ish's EnGaze Program Works: Three Key Components
The aesthetic sense is not about knowledge or skills per se; it is developed through a transformative experience that shakes and reconstructs one’s sensibility and perspective. The EnGaze program includes a structured process that facilitates this transformation across three main phases: Pre-Crossing, During-Crossing, and Post-Crossing.
1.
Pre-Crossing: Visualizing Perspectives
Before embarking on the crossing experience, participants must become aware of their unconscious perspectives and biases. By articulating and visualizing their underlying assumptions and sensibilities, they prepare themselves to approach the experience with a fresh perspective during their immersion.
2.
During-Crossing: Engaging with Complex Realities
Unlike typical tours or observations, this phase emphasizes encountering reality through physical engagement. Participants listen, interact, and deal with complexities that are not abstract. They encounter systems built on trust, overlapping roles, and realities that do not conform to a single right answer—prompting an internal examination of their “norms.”
3.
Post-Crossing: Articulating Perspective Changes
After returning, participants reflect on their newly formed perspectives. This stage involves articulating and sharing the insights gained, ensuring that realizations do not remain unexamined but are integrated into their understanding, leading to a meaningful evolution of thought. Currently, a product is being developed to visualize and accumulate this process.

EnGaze: A Regional Border-Crossing Program for Leaders
The term EnGaze combines two concepts: "UnGaze," representing the letting go of old perspectives, and "Engage with Gaze," indicating deep engagement with new viewpoints. This program symbolizes the process of loosening old perceptions and cultivating a new scale of values through regional experiences.
Starting from the 2026 fiscal year, Hue-ish will offer this program to a select few companies. Each session typically involves a 1-2 night stay in the region, along with introspection sessions before and after the crossing, tailored according to participants' roles and titles.
