Kitsap Roofing Joins Forces with PABCO to Help Local Domestic Violence Shelter

In a remarkable demonstration of community support and collaboration, Kitsap Roofing has teamed up with PABCO Roofing Products to replace the roof of the Family Renewal Shelter, a vital resource for families escaping domestic violence in Pierce County, Washington. This initiative highlights not only the strength of local businesses but also their commitment to giving back to the community.

A Much-Needed Renovation

The Family Renewal Shelter has been serving victims of domestic violence since 1986, providing emergency safety and a range of support services aimed at helping families rebuild their lives. However, the shelter's aging facilities, particularly its deteriorating roof, presented significant challenges. Recognizing the importance of a safe and secure environment for its residents, Kitsap Roofing and PABCO stepped in to ensure the shelter could continue its essential work without the burden of financial strain that typically accompanies major renovations.

The partnership was set in motion when employees from PABCO Roofing made a visit to the shelter during the 2024 holiday season as part of their Adopt a Family program. While delivering gifts, they noticed the pressing issues with the facility’s roof, which had fallen into disrepair. The sight of leaks and algae growth prompted PABCO employees Brian Smith and Mel Barger to take action. "It was clear the roof was struggling with heavy algae growth and shingles coming loose," recounted Brian. "When we went inside, the incredible staff welcomed us and pointed out the buckets placed around the building to catch leaks. In that moment, we resolved to help."

Donated Materials and Labor

Upon returning from the shelter, Brian and Mel relayed the situation to PABCO leadership, who promptly recognized the urgency of the matter and agreed to provide new roofing materials. In addition to PABCO’s contribution, other local suppliers stepped up: ABC Supply donated gutters and downspouts, while Pioneer Builders Supply Co. provided additional necessary materials. Despite the generosity shown in donating materials, the task of installing the roof remained. This is where Kitsap Roofing, known for their expertise and longstanding partnership with PABCO, came into play.

"It's important for us to support other local families, and providing our labor for this project was a great way to give back.
