Opening of Mirai College Narita Campus to Support Individuals with Severe Disabilities

New Beginnings for Individuals with Severe Disabilities

On April 1, 2025, the Mirai College Narita Campus will officially launch its life support services under the umbrella of the general incorporated association "Mirai e no Kakehashi" (Bridge to the Future). This initiative aims to go beyond mere accommodation and emphasizes the importance of learning, working, and connecting with the community. Its mission is to empower individuals with severe intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling and authentic lives.

Vision and Values

Masato Hasegawa, the representative director, firmly believes that the key to transforming lives lies in unwavering support. His philosophy endorses a brand of welfare that declares "never give up on life". The college aims to support continuous personal growth, regardless of age. With a focus on the triad of "learning, working, and connecting," Mirai College is committed to offering an inclusive environment where each individual can shine.

The services emphasize educational opportunities, productive activities, and community ties. This holistic approach is designed to facilitate the integration of those with severe intellectual disabilities and autism into society, fostering their development as contributing members.

Specialized Support Methods

Mirai College utilizes specialized methods such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the TEACCH program, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). These approaches are tailored to meet the unique characteristics and needs of each individual, ensuring effective and compassionate personalized support.

  • - ABA: A methodology that employs behavioral techniques to enhance communication and learning.
  • - TEACCH: An initiative aimed at providing care and education tailored for children with autism and related communication challenges.
  • - PECS: A communication system that uses pictures to support interactions.

With these tools, Mirai College enables participants to develop essential skills while providing a nurturing environment.

Engagement and Community Interaction

In addition to its educational offerings, the college will host a free seminar led by Masato Hasegawa, discussing the importance of learning and community involvement for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The event aims to highlight the future of collaborative support within the community and raise awareness about inclusivity.
