Green Education Initiative Launched in Thailand
In a significant move towards environmental sustainability and digital education,
Huawei,
JA Solar, UNESCO, and the Thai Ministry of Education have officially launched the
Green Education initiative in Thailand. The project aims to cultivate a new generation of students equipped with environmentally sustainable skills and digital technology knowledge. Conducted under Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative, the program will deliver clean energy solutions and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills training to 11 schools and community centers across the country.
On December 3, the project commenced with the installation of solar panels at the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, marking a key milestone in the initiative. David Li, CEO of Huawei Thailand, emphasized the project's significance, stating, "The Green Education project is more than just corporate social responsibility; it is a long-term investment in the youth and future of Thailand." By integrating clean energy solutions with practical education, the initiative strives to develop a model for sustainable development and inclusivity.
The initiative is particularly vital in addressing key educational and energy challenges, especially in underserved rural areas. The project will also align with a broader national movement advocating for green innovations. The two beneficiaries of the project are tasked with providing local communities with essential digital and technical skills in green energy and sustainable development.
Located in Nakhon Nayok, the Banna Learning Encouragement Center will offer free training in green energy and digital literacy, aiming to bridge the skills gap in economically disadvantaged regions. Additionally, the Kanchanapisek Technical College in Nong Chok will utilize donated photovoltaic systems to train students on installation, maintenance, and operation, giving them valuable technical skills for future employment opportunities.
Local schools and educators have warmly embraced the potential of the Green Education project. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, the director of the Banna Learning Encouragement Center, remarked, "This project exemplifies how collaboration between global companies and local educational institutions can drive meaningful change. With the donated solar equipment, our students will gain hands-on experience in installing and maintaining renewable energy systems, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market."
The Green Education initiative encompasses three main areas:
- - Green Schools for Secondary Education: This aspect will ensure the installation of solar systems on secondary school rooftops while educating teachers and students about the benefits and utilization of green energy.
- - Green Schools for Vocational Training: This direction aims to provide vocational students with hands-on opportunities to work with photovoltaic systems, prepping them for careers in the rapidly advancing renewable energy sector.
- - Green Communities: This segment will support public libraries and learning centers with renewable energy and mobile digital educational programs, including lessons on green energy and cybersecurity using the Huawei Digital Bus.
The Huawei Digital Bus has already provided free training in green energy awareness and telecommunications to students in Nakhon Nayok. To date, it has traversed 10 remote provinces in Thailand, equipping 4,500 students with knowledge and skills that contribute to a sustainable future.
Thailand's commitment to adopting renewable energy aligns with government efforts to modernize education and equip students with the skills for future opportunities. As a partner in the TECH4ALL initiative, JA Solar is dedicated to facilitating Thailand's energy transition by providing practical knowledge to students and helping to enact long-term changes within communities.
Looking ahead, Huawei, JA Solar, and other partners will expand the project’s reach, inviting more organizations to join forces on a mission to equip the next generation with the skills and tools necessary for fostering a sustainable Thai society.
