Electrify America Highlights Long-Distance EV Charging Convenience on a Coastal Road Trip
In an ambitious endeavor, Rachel Moses, the senior director of sales and marketing at Electrify America, recently took on an incredible journey across the East Coast to demonstrate the ease of utilizing Electrify America’s Hyper-Fast charging network. Covering a total of 1,765 miles, the trip spanned from Portland, Maine, to Key West, Florida, showcasing the growing infrastructure of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 14 states.
Moses shared that the trip was motivated by a challenge found on Reddit, where a user proposed taking a long-distance road trip in an electric vehicle solely powered by the Electrify America network. The response to that challenge was a thrilling six-day adventure designed to highlight how manageable long-distance travel can be for EV drivers.
During her trip, Moses relied on the Electrify America mobile app and the PlugCharge feature, seamlessly connecting her vehicle to 15 different charging stations along the route. This included a nostalgic visit to Electrify America’s very first charging station, which was established in 2018 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Furthermore, she showcased a collaborative station with the New York Power Authority, part of efforts to expand the EV charging network in the region.
Two vehicles were featured throughout this electrified journey, beginning with the 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz and transitioning to the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E after arriving at Electrify America’s Center of Excellence in Reston, Virginia. This change not only highlighted the versatility of vehicles that can utilize the charging network but also showcased the growing variety of electric vehicles available to consumers today.
According to Robert Barrosa, the president and CEO of Electrify America, Rachel’s journey is a reflection of the company's commitment to providing a user-friendly experience for EV drivers. He emphasized the ongoing growth of Electrify America’s infrastructure, mirroring the rising adoption of electric vehicles across the U.S. As the holiday season approaches, with nearly 82 million Americans expected to travel at least 50 miles by vehicle over Thanksgiving, the need for a dependable, accessible charging network is more critical than ever.
Electrify America is actively expanding its network to serve the increasing needs of consumers, providing over 5,000 chargers at more than 1,000 stations across North America. This growth is not just about numbers; it’s about confidence in switching to electric driving and reducing obstacles faced during long travels. The increased awareness and use of EVs signify a shift towards more sustainable travel practices, underscoring the importance of convenience and accessibility in this transition.
For those planning to take a holiday road trip, Moses encourages preparation and any queries about using their extensive charging network can easily be alleviated through their dedicated app. Follow along with her electrified journey on social media with the hashtag #ChargeOn as a source of inspiration for anyone considering their own electric vehicle adventure.
