Preserving Japanese Rice Culture: Plenus' Exhibition on Culinary Heritage

Plenus' Initiative to Preserve Japanese Rice Culture

On September 27, 2025, Plenus Inc., headquartered in Ginza, Chuo Ward, will proudly present its innovative exhibition titled "Connecting Japanese Food Culture through Rice Cooking" at the Gas Museum operated by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. This exhibition will run until December 25, 2025. Plenus, which manages a vast network of 2,809 eateries across the country, including "Hotto Motto" for take-out bento, "Yayoiken" for set meals, and "MK Restaurant" known for shabu-shabu and authentic dim sum, sees this event as an opportunity to promote the beauty of Japan’s rice culture to the next generation through its program called "Komeiku."

Recognizing the 140-year anniversary of the Tokyo Gas Group, the exhibition will delve into the historical connection between gas cooking and daily life, showcasing development milestones like the "Gas Kamado" introduced back in Meiji 35 (1902). It will not only highlight the evolution of gas rice cooking over more than a century but will also reflect on how this cooking method interweaves with our lifestyles.

Plenus' thematic focus during the exhibition will revolve around "The History of Rice Cooking Methods," which encompasses the broader themes of "The History of Rice Culture" and "Japanese Bento Culture." One of the exciting highlights will be a hands-on workshop called “Rice Workshop” scheduled for October 18, 2025, designed for families to enjoy together.
