Palm Beach Atlantic University Celebrates Local Women at 2025 Luncheon

Celebrating Excellence: The 2025 Women of Distinction Luncheon

Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) is set to honor two outstanding women at its 33rd Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon on February 18, 2025. SROA Capital proudly serves as the Diamond Sponsor for this annual event held at The Breakers in Palm Beach, showcasing the contributions of local leaders Penny G. Murphy and Amanda Schumacher.

This cherished tradition highlights women who embody community values and aim to uplift future generations. The proceeds from the luncheon will significantly contribute to a scholarship fund dedicated to supporting deserving female students at PBA. Since its inception over three decades ago, this event has helped numerous students pursue their academic dreams through the Women of Distinction (WOD) scholarship program, benefiting 74 recipients since 1996.

According to event chair Frances Fisher, “The past and present Women of Distinction represent the heart and soul of our community.” She emphasized that this year's honorees are not only sophisticated businesswomen but also generous community contributors who have dedicated themselves to enhancing the lives of others. Their leadership encourages a new generation of women to continue this legacy of service and social responsibility.

Penny G. Murphy, a West Palm Beach native, is deeply rooted in local values of dedication and hard work, adhering closely to her grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit. With a background in education acquired from Stephens College and George Mason University, she founded Penny Brown’s Kindergarten in Wellington before transitioning to community service in various capacities. Eventually, Murphy took the helm at Pioneer Linens, becoming its president in 2007. Her active role on numerous boards, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Historical Society of Palm Beach, alongside her philanthropic efforts, exemplifies her commitment to community development.

Amanda Schumacher, founder and president of the Tree of Life Foundation International, Inc., represents the essence of philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, the foundation operates 22 branches aimed at supporting communities globally. Beyond her philanthropic endeavors, Schumacher manages multiple businesses, including Schumacher Auto Group and We Insure Schumacher Insurance, and dedicates her time to various advisory boards across health and welfare organizations.

In addition to recognizing Murphy and Schumacher, the 2025 WOD ceremony also honors Kaelin Hatfield with the humanitarian award. Hatfield, a PBA graduate and social entrepreneur, has made significant strides through her initiatives aimed at raising awareness for mental health and providing humanitarian aid globally.

The captivating event will see a variety of sponsors, including Sapphire sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Tim Sotos and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Merriman, Ruby sponsors, and other community philanthropists and organizations rallying together to make a difference.

PBA, steeped in Christian values since its founding in 1968, continues to willfully contribute to the growth and well-being of its students and the community. Partaking in events like this highlights not only the individuals recognized but also the great potential of future leaders who will benefit from the support of such initiatives.
