Citadel Credit Union Donates Over $550,000 to Local Community in 2025
Citadel Credit Union's 2025 Community Contributions
In a significant demonstration of its commitment to community engagement, Citadel Credit Union allocated more than $550,000 to various organizations in 2025, marking one of its largest investment years to date. With a strong focus on empowerment and well-being across Greater Philadelphia, this initiative highlights the credit union's ongoing mission to enhance the lives of its members and local residents.
Citadel's philanthropic efforts were supported by more than 30 partnered organizations and over 2,000 hours of volunteer work contributed by its employees. Throughout the year, Citadel participated in 121 community events, reflecting its dedication to making a positive impact in the regions it serves. A standout moment this year was Citadel's role as the premier sponsor for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Parkway Run and Walk, celebrating its sixth consecutive year of support for this vital charity event. The fundraiser successfully raised over $1.8 million for CHOP's Cancer Center, further underscoring Citadel's generous community involvement.
"Community engagement is central to who we are as an organization," said Bill Brown, President and CEO of Citadel Credit Union. He emphasized that the enthusiastic participation of employees in volunteer activities and support for various causes epitomizes the organization's culture of commitment.
Citadel Cares, the credit union's community engagement program, focuses on four key pillars: financial literacy, education, community and economic development, and health and wellness. In 2025 alone, Citadel organized nearly 30 financial literacy programs, aimed at enhancing the financial knowledge of its community members. Additionally, Citadel raised and donated over $300,000 to CHOP as part of its ongoing commitment to health-related initiatives.
Moreover, the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards program disbursed $86,000 to recognize outstanding teachers and provide grants for educational enhancements. Alongside educational support, Citadel committed $76,500 to affordable housing initiatives, collaborating with organizations like Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, and Good Works, reinforcing its pledge to tackle homelessness.
Recognizing the essential need for adequate nutrition, Citadel allocated over $65,000 to regional food security initiatives. This notable funding supported organizations such as the Chester County Food Bank and Philabundance. Citadel further mobilized its employees to drive food donation initiatives, exemplified by a month-long food drive aimed at assisting individuals impacted by the suspension of SNAP benefits during a government shutdown.
To bolster its community outreach, Citadel appointed Steve Miller as Vice President of Community Engagement and Philanthropy. His role centers on guiding Citadel Cares' expansion and fortifying partnerships within the region. “When we formalized the Citadel Cares team last year, our goal was to deepen relationships in the communities where we operate,” said Miller. He expressed his pride in the extraordinary level of engagement from employees who took the initiative to organize their own volunteer activities beyond what's officially tracked by Citadel Cares.
This year also saw the introduction of the Employee Choice Awards, where $20,000 was allocated for employees to nominate and vote for nonprofits to receive $1,000 grants. This initiative has fostered a culture of giving and has empowered employees to directly impact the organizations they believe in.
In addition to the aforementioned organizations, Citadel supported several other local initiatives in 2025, including the Chester County United Way, Esperanza, Urban Affairs Coalition, West Chester University Foundation, Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation, the Foundation of Delaware County, and Ronald McDonald House Charities, among many others.
