Insights from the 2025 Living Satisfaction Ranking
For the
Living Satisfaction Ranking,
Matsuyama City has secured the top position for six consecutive years. Following Matsuyama,
Matsumae Town in Iyo County ranked second, while
Saijo City came in third. Matsuyama is not just a vibrant urban center; it is the capital of Ehime, boasting the highest population in the Shikoku region. Currently, major redevelopment projects are underway near the city’s station, ensuring continued growth and modernization.
The area is renowned for its shopping districts, department stores, and various commercial facilities, such as the expansive
Okaido Street, which is over 400 meters long. Besides urban amenities, Matsuyama is also home to
Dogo Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest hot springs, and the
Shiki Memorial Museum.
In terms of specific factors, Matsuyama excels in attributes such as
“friendliness” and
“vibrancy,” reinforcing its position at the top.
On the other hand,
Iyo City has risen from eighth place last year to fifth place this year, largely due to its scenic location by the Seto Inland Sea and proximity to Matsuyama, which is just a 30-minute drive away. It also received the highest score for the
“affordability” factor.
