As inhabitants of the Japanese archipelago, we are continuously influenced by natural phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. While these events shape the land and provide us with resources, understanding these natural systems is essential for preparedness and safety.
The Geology Exhibition is a beloved annual event co-hosted by GSJ and the Japan Geological Society, designed to educate attendees about earth sciences in a fun and interactive way. Celebrating its 29th edition this year, the exhibition continues to draw interest from all ages and backgrounds.
Engaging Activities and Exhibits
This year's exhibition will feature interactive experiences that allow visitors to see, touch, listen, and learn. The themes will center on Kumamoto's unique geology, including its volcanoes, earthquakes, and groundwater. Highlights include:

- Fossil replica making
- Stone breaking experience
- Volcanic eruption experiments
- Singing sand and rock balancing
- Ground shaking and liquefaction experiments
- Water channel sediment experiments
- Geological map coloring specific to Kumamoto

Finally, a public lecture hosted by the Japan Geological Society will take place on September 15 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, focusing on the latest advancements in dinosaur science.
