The upcoming increase in the legal employment rate for disabled persons to 2.7% in July 2026 brings a multitude of challenges for small businesses. A recent survey conducted by General Partners revealed that many HR personnel in these companies feel overwhelmed as they prepare for compliance. This critical change mandates that firms with over 37.5 employees adapt their hiring practices promptly.

The survey involved 1,024 HR representatives from small businesses and posed questions on the challenges surrounding the employment of disabled individuals. Astonishingly, while around 60% of respondents felt adequately prepared by either meeting the new hiring requirements or calculating the necessary additional hires, the struggles with task allocation for disabled employees emerged as a significant concern.
