Woodpack Global Introduces Innovative Crate Design Software for Industry Professionals

Woodpack Global Launches Crate Design System™

On September 9, 2026, Woodpack Global proudly announced the introduction of its Crate Design System™ (CDS), a cutting-edge software tool aimed at revolutionizing the design process for wooden crates and industrial wood packaging. This innovative tool comes at a time when the significance of wooden crates in global commerce cannot be overstated, as they serve essential functions in everything from export packaging to the protection of heavy equipment.

Addressing an Industry Need

Despite their importance, the foundation of crate design has remained relatively stagnant, relying heavily on research and methodologies dating back to the 1960s. Many professionals in this space have been forced to make do with outdated tools and techniques that do not adequately serve their needs. Recognizing this gap, Woodpack Global took a proactive approach to develop CDS, marking a pivotal first step towards modernizing crate design.

Kristen DeLack, P.E., Principal Engineer and Strategic Business Advisor at Woodpack Global, notes, “The wooden crate design landscape has been neglected for too long. This first release of CDS represents just the beginning and has been informed by direct feedback from professionals who engage with these structures daily.”

Features of the Crate Design System

The Crate Design System builds upon the strong foundation of Woodpack Global's existing Pallet Design System™ (PDS), tailoring some of its core principles regarding fastener behavior, wood properties, and structural performance specifically for crate applications. The initial version of CDS focuses on designing sheathed and cleated crates, as well as solid wood boxes. The company has plans for subsequent releases that will expand functionality to include a wider array of crate styles, additional design tools, integration with CAD software, and support for other wood packaging formats.

Jon Farinha from Girard Wood Products, Inc. expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “CDS has been an excellent addition to our design process. The ability to quickly produce detailed crate designs and present customers with 3D and exploded views has greatly enhanced our communication, allowing us to pinpoint areas for improving efficiency and lowering costs.”

Future Developments

Brent McClendon, President and CEO of Woodpack Global, shared his excitement about the launch: “We’re thrilled to integrate the Crate Design System into our suite of wood packaging software solutions. This is a significant yet preliminary stride towards providing dedicated tools for a part of the industry that has long been underserved. We aim to develop this further with input from the users and businesses within this field.”
