In an inspiring move towards promoting diversity and inclusion, JTB Corporation, based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and CNS (Co. Ltd.), located in Meguro, Tokyo, have announced a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing diversity education in schools. This program leverages the upcoming Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, a significant platform for raising awareness about hearing impairments, to create meaningful educational experiences for students.
The Initiative
This unique program, named "Learning with Deaf Athletes! Career × Diversity Education Program," is set to launch on December 1, 2025. It features DeafVR technology offered by CNS, which allows participants to experience a simulated world from the perspective of those with hearing difficulties. This innovative approach merges career education initiatives from JTB, utilizing the firsthand experiences of Deaf athletes employed by the company, to present a comprehensive understanding of diversity and the importance of coexistence in our society.
With two Deaf athletes on staff at JTB, the message they convey is critical. Their participation not only highlights the achievements of individuals with disabilities but also emphasizes the diverse possibilities that exist within this community. These athletes serve as powerful role models, bringing first-hand stories and experiences that can significantly influence students’ perceptions and understanding of their own capabilities and the societies they inhabit.
Objectives of the Program
The initiative aims to achieve several key objectives. Primarily, it seeks to deepen students’ understanding of diversity and the necessity of coexistence in society. By integrating DeafVR technology, students will have the opportunity to engage with relayed experiences, learn about the challenges faced by those with hearing impairments, and develop empathy and understanding toward their peers.
In addition, the program encourages participants to reflect on their career aspirations and the role that diversity plays in shaping inclusive working environments. This reflective process is crucial for developing future leaders who value and advocate for diversity in all its forms.
