A Unique Career Education Experience for High School Students
On July 14, 2025, a special career education program titled "Job Draft Career" designed for high school students took place at the Itzuba High School Yoyogi Campus in Shibuya, Tokyo. This program is aimed at providing support for students as they embark on their job search journey. The seminar featured prominent speakers, including Rino Morosawa, the CEO of Skyscraper Co., Ltd., and Kei Hoshino, a director at Jinjib Co., Ltd. Both shared insights on the theme "Thinking About My Career at 17."
The Highlights of the Special Class
The discussion began by addressing what a career means to each individual. Morosawa's journey to becoming a CEO at just 22, as well as Hoshino’s experience overseeing career education development, provided a wealth of knowledge for the participating students. They engaged with students directly, answering questions and addressing their concerns about future career paths. The overall aim was to create a platform for students to reflect upon their careers and understand the opportunities that lie ahead.
To emphasize its importance, this program was curated against the backdrop of a highly competitive job market for the graduating class of 2025, which is reportedly experiencing a recruitment ratio of 4.1 to 1, showcasing a seller's market for job seekers. However, this environment, coupled with declining birth rates, poses challenges for companies vying for young talent. The students, moving toward their first experiences of job-seeking, often feel ill-prepared. Many lack adequate insight regarding their suitability for various career paths, leading to potential mismatches with employers.
Setting the Stage for Future Careers
The insightful conversations during the class revolved around the notion of what career means personally to each attendant. Students shared their thoughts on how their experiences might shape their futures, as well as their aspirations and the impact they want to make in their respective fields. Morosawa and Hoshino’s authenticity resonated deeply with the students, making them feel closer to these business leaders.
Key Takeaways from the Session
The highlight of the session was a collaborative dialogue where students learned about the essentials required for career success, such as effective communication and self-awareness. The candid discussions addressed issues young individuals often face, such as self-doubt about their chosen paths, personal strengths, and weaknesses. Morosawa spoke about overcoming challenges and the importance of being brave enough to ask for help, which left a significant impression on the young audience.
Student Reflections
After the class, students shared their thoughts on the session:
- - First Year Male Student: "I was inspired by Morosawa's spirit of 'let's try it' and his energetic approach to life. I want to follow his mindset to brighten my future."
- - Second Year Male Student: "I learned that achieving results isn't just about accomplishments but also about human qualities. Morosawa's ability to discuss his weaknesses provided me with great inspiration."
A Platform for Future Discussions
In conclusion, each student was given a platform to reflect on what careers mean to them, along with their aspirations and the values they uphold. This personal sharing offered profound insights into various perspectives on career paths among young individuals.
