A Vision for Inclusivity in Disability Employment Support
On November 12, 2025, Start Line Co., Ltd. welcomed faculty and graduate students from Hanoi National University of Education to its disability employment support facilities in Kadoma, Osaka. This visit, made possible with the cooperation of Professor Naoki Nakashika from Ritsumeikan University, aimed to share knowledge and practices to enhance the disability support framework in Vietnam.
Context of the Visit
In Vietnam, support systems for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities are still developing, presenting significant social challenges. Hanoi National University of Education, as the leading teacher training institution in Vietnam, plays a crucial role in developing educators for special needs education. With a long-standing collaboration of over 10 years with Ritsumeikan University’s Faculty of Human Sciences, Start Line was chosen as a model for learning advanced disability employment strategies in Japan.
Since its inception in 2009, Start Line has dedicated more than a decade to developing support technologies related to disability employment, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The company has built up substantial practical experience, making it an ideal site for the visit.
Activities on the Day of the Visit: IBUKI and BYSN
The participants engaged in an on-site tour and hands-on experiences at two of Start Line’s key employment support services: IBUKI, an indoor farming model, and BYSN, a coffee roasting model. Notably, BYSN’s operational model, which involves coffee bean selection and roasting, aligns well with Vietnam’s own coffee cultivation culture. This inherent synergy led to enthusiastic discussions about the unique support technologies implemented at BYSN.
Schedule of the Day
- - Date: November 12, from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM
- - Location: IBUKI Kadoma Farm (Kadoma City), BYSN Higashiosaka Roastery (Higashiosaka City)
- - Activities:
- Overview and explanation of the company
- Facility tours of IBUKI and BYSN
- Hands-on workshop experience
- Q&A session
Experiences During the Visit
Participants had the chance to pick coffee beans at BYSN and observe the roasting process. They also experienced IBUKI's cultivation practices. The combination of practical activities and theoretical learning provided the visiting faculty and students with concrete ideas they could implement in their own teaching practices.
Outcomes and Future Prospects
The feedback received post-visit was overwhelmingly positive. Professor Nakashika noted the intense engagement from the participants, revealing a strong interest in the processes observed. Although directly copying Japan’s systems into Vietnam poses challenges, the insights gained are invaluable for envisioning future frameworks in Vietnam’s disability support landscape. Practical experiences shared during the visit could serve as immediate teaching tools for educators back in Vietnam.
Through this visit, Start Line aims not only to enhance disability support within Japan but also to contribute to improving its quality across Asia. The company is committed to realizing a society where everyone can live authentically.
