The Apollo & Kwanza Jones Present 'Culture In Motion'
The Apollo Theatre, a historic cultural institution rooted in Harlem, has announced a groundbreaking new initiative called
Culture In Motion in collaboration with the acclaimed artist and entrepreneur Kwanza Jones. This nationwide tour aims to promote the arts, community engagement, and empowerment through creativity. Launching on
Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2025, this project symbolizes a significant investment in cultural connections while bringing the rich legacy of The Apollo to new audiences across the United States.
An Inspiring Journey Ahead
Starting in
January 2026, Culture In Motion will roll out across various cities, with the inaugural celebration hosted at The Apollo itself. The tour will encompass main cultural hubs in California such as Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and more, collaborating closely with local institutions, schools, and grassroots organizations.
This initiative is part of the broader goals of the Kwanza Jones & José E. Feliciano Initiative, a philanthropic organization devoted to promoting meaningful community impact. By focusing on strategic investments rather than mere donations, the Initiative aims to provide support that creates lasting change.
The
SUPERCHARGED® Boost Bus will serve as a mobile cultural center throughout the tour. This custom-designed vehicle is intended to bring the essence of The Apollo into communities, showcasing live performances, creative workshops, and activations led by Kwanza Jones and her team. The Boost Bus not only carries the artistic legacy of The Apollo but also embodies its mission to empower and uplift local communities through creative expression.
Elevating Cultural Access
Culture In Motion will highlight four main pillars:
1.
Artistic Enjoyment: Live performances and creative showcases reflecting The Apollo's style and history.
2.
Community Engagement: Collaborations with cultural institutions and local organizations to foster community ties.
3.
Empowerment: Activation mechanisms that inspire creativity and innovation within communities.
4.
Legacy and Innovation: Honoring The Apollo's storied past while embracing new technologies and voices.
This innovative approach not only seeks to advance community-building efforts but also to enhance institutional capabilities, ultimately aiming for broader impacts beyond just the initial funding.
Kwanza Jones expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The Apollo is more than a stage; it’s a place where people can find their voices and empower themselves. I hope this tour inspires many to write their own stories and realize the power of the Apollo legacy.”
Similarly, Michelle Ebanks, President and CEO of The Apollo, remarked, “This collaboration is a testament to the spirit of Giving Tuesday. Through Culture In Motion, we are bringing The Apollo’s core values directly to communities nationwide. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this new chapter.”
Looking Ahead
As the tour unfolds, The Apollo and its partners will evaluate opportunities to expand the initiative internationally by 2027, further connecting diverse cultures through art and creativity. This ambitious endeavor promises to revitalize the connection between The Apollo and audiences across America, reaffirming its role as a leading light in the arts.
