BMO Employees Unite to Donate Over $36 Million to Community Initiatives in 2025
In an extraordinary display of communal support, BMO Financial Group announced that an impressive 91% of its workforce participated in the Employee Giving campaign for 2025, contributing over $36 million to charitable organizations across North America. This campaign, a testament to BMO's commitment to social responsibility, has once again surpassed its ambitious fundraising goal of $29 million.
This year's campaign marks the 15th annual partnership between BMO and United Way, a collaboration that has strengthened community ties for over six decades. A significant portion of the funds, more than $12 million, has been directed specifically to local United Ways, ensuring that the contributions have a direct impact on the communities that need it most.
BMO’s CEO, Darryl White, expressed pride in the campaign's success. He stated, "This year's achievement reflects our purpose to boldly grow the good in business and life. Our long-standing alliance with United Way is vital in combating inequity and providing essential support where it’s needed most."
In addition to this remarkable funding, BMO employees have collectively donated over $140 million to various charities in Canada and the US over the past five years. Heather McDonald, CEO of United Way Greater Toronto, emphasized the importance of this campaign, stating, "The scale of this effort strengthens local, frontline agencies and helps keep practical supports within reach for those striving for financial stability, health, and belonging. In challenging times, this commitment truly makes a difference."
BMO has been recognized as United Way of Metro Chicago's top corporate partner for more than ten years. Sean Garrett, President and CEO of United Way of Metro Chicago, highlighted how employees from BMO provide not just financial support, but also their time and creativity, helping to drive transformation in various neighborhoods across the region.
Launching on Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2025, BMO kicked off its Employee Giving campaign with enthusiasm, organizing 16 community kit packing events throughout cities in Canada and the U.S. Over 750 employee volunteers assembled nearly 11,000 care kits tailored to local needs. These included hygiene kits, cold weather kits, literacy kits, and snack packs, all aimed at supporting United Way initiatives and partner agencies.
BMO's ongoing collaboration with United Way plays a crucial role in addressing the fundamental challenges facing communities. Together, the organizations aim to tackle economic disparities and promote genuine progress. In 2024 alone, this partnership reached over 3.7 million individuals across 150 neighborhoods.
Looking to the future, BMO remains committed to its core purpose of positively influencing the communities it serves. The bank boasts a rich legacy of over 200 years dedicated to community development, reflected in its significant charitable contributions. In the past year, BMO directed over $108 million towards community programs, of which $101 million was specifically allocated to various charities and nonprofit organizations.
Additionally, employees have volunteered over 54,000 hours within their communities and provided upwards of $39 million in donations through employee-driven initiatives.
In summary, BMO's Employee Giving campaign is much more than a fundraising effort; it exemplifies how corporate responsibility can mobilize employees for a common cause and create substantial change within communities. As BMO continues to cultivate goodwill and community support, it sets a remarkable example for businesses dedicated to making a positive impact in society.
