As the holiday season approaches, Suntory Wellness conducted a survey among 1,000 individuals aged between 40 and 70 to understand the intentions and concerns of middle-aged and senior citizens regarding their outings. The survey was conducted via internet research from April 9 to April 10, 2025.

Outing Plans for the Holiday
Approximately 30% of respondents indicated they had plans for outings during the holidays. The predominant choice for outings is domestic travel, preferred by 218 participants. Other popular options include dining and shopping in nearby areas (139 participants) and overseas travel (12 participants).
Concerns About Outings
Among the participants, the primary concern regarding outings involves the ability to walk for extended periods and distances without falling. Specifically, 394 individuals expressed worry about walking for long hours, while 352 are concerned about walking long distances. Other concerns included fears of knee pain (266 individuals) and falling (110 individuals).
Health and Exercise Habits
The survey revealed that nearly half of the respondents regularly engage in light exercises like stretching, squats, or walking to maintain their mobility. Additionally, 381 participants acknowledged their attention to dietary habits and nutrition, emphasizing an awareness of healthy lifestyle choices that support their well-being.
Nutrition Awareness
Participants displayed a particular focus on consuming nutrients that promote health, particularly protein (494 respondents), calcium (337), and hydration (292). Nutrients that possess antioxidant properties, such as quercetin and anserine, however, were less frequently prioritized, with only 18 and 15 respondents respectively considering them.

Dr. Kaoruko Ito, an orthopedic specialist and director of Kaoruko Happy Clinic for Women, provided insights on maintaining muscle strength as one ages. She highlighted the importance of integrating proper nutrition and exercise at a young age to prevent muscle decline. Key nutrients like protein play a vital role in repairing muscle fibers, leading to better muscle health. She added that nutrients with antioxidant effects, such as quercetin and anserine, are crucial for muscle repair and maintenance.
