GCL SI Joins the TianGong Initiative



On June 12, 2025, during the inaugural day of the SNEC PV Power Expo, GCL System Integration Technology Co., Ltd. (commonly known as GCL SI) made a significant announcement by joining the TianGong Initiative, marking a pioneering step in the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry. This initiative aims to enhance carbon transparency in supply chains, setting a new standard for the industry and beyond.

The TianGong Initiative is spearheaded by Tsinghua University and initiated by the Carbon Footprint Industry Alliance (CFIA), a nonprofit, research-focused coalition committed to establishing a localized and internationally recognized framework for carbon data. The initiative's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data platform is designed to create a comprehensive database of carbon factors, thereby improving the international interoperability of carbon data.

During the opening ceremony held on June 11, GCL SI's Chief Operating Officer Zheng Ren, along with Qi Jianchuan, Deputy Secretary-General of the TianGong Initiative and a researcher at Tsinghua University’s School of Environment, and Li Shubo, General Manager of Ant Digital Data Communication Business Unit, jointly signed a tripartite agreement. This cooperation marks a crucial milestone in promoting transparent and verifiable carbon data within the solar sector, demonstrating GCL SI's commitment to sustainability and industry leadership.

Through the collaboration with Ant Digital, GCL SI has developed the GCL SiRo Carbon Data Platform, achieving comprehensive quantification of its CO2 emissions and enabling blockchain-based traceability throughout its supply chain. Thanks to Ant Digital's data processing and blockchain technologies, GCL SI's CO2 footprint data is now accessible on the TianGong LCA data platform, serving as a reference model for China’s low-carbon data ecosystem and enhancing the global competitiveness of its green supply chains.

GCL SI has a long-standing advocacy for low-carbon innovations. The company's FBR-granulated silicon production boasts an industry-leading CO2 balance, emitting just 37 kg of CO2 equivalent per kilogram of product. This achievement corresponds to a reduction of over 2 million tons of CO2 emissions for every 100,000 tons produced.

Zheng Ren expressed pride in being the first solar company to join the TianGong Initiative, stating, “By connecting the SiRo Carbon Data Platform with the TianGong LCA Data Platform, we have transitioned from a linear model to a dynamic network that connects essential resources across the solar industry and beyond. Together, we will innovate, reduce carbon emissions, and build a sustainable future. We invite our partners to join us on this important journey.”
