Huawei Unveils Innovative Features for Digital Transformation at CIRED 2025 Conference

Huawei's Innovations at CIRED 2025 Conference

The International Congress on Electrical Distribution Networks (CIRED) 2025 took place from June 16 to 19 in Geneva, marking an essential gathering for industry leaders and professionals from around the globe. This year, Huawei showcased its cutting-edge capabilities within its Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS), positioning itself as a leader in the digital transformation of electrical distribution systems.

The conference attracted representatives from 129 companies and 2,654 attendees across 72 countries. Participants engaged in valuable networking and attended technical workshops, emphasizing the evolving landscape of global energy distribution. Huawei's presentation focused on innovative solutions that address the pressing challenges faced by electrical distribution networks, such as frequent outages, aging infrastructures, and the integration of renewable energy sources.

Addressing Key Challenges

The electrical distribution sector has been grappling with several critical issues in recent years. Frequent power outages, inadequate system resilience, aging frameworks, and limited use of renewable resources have heightened the urgency for effective solutions. The rise of distributed photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging infrastructures has further strained traditional operations and maintenance of energy systems.

Huawei's IDS tackles these challenges by employing a comprehensive architecture that integrates cloud, communication networks, and edge computing technologies. Utilizing high-speed communication lines and universal edge computing units, the solution ensures transparent monitoring and proactive operational frameworks for electrical networks. This capability not only enhances responsiveness to system failures but also bolsters the resilience of distribution grids against extreme weather events, ultimately improving user satisfaction.

Implemented extensively in China and piloted by over 20 distribution companies worldwide, the IDS has demonstrated its capability to reduce outage detection times to under two minutes while decreasing line losses by approximately 20% across Asia-Pacific regions.

Introducing Advanced Features

During CIRED 2025, Huawei unveiled a unique feature of its IDS designed to tackle the challenges posed by invisible and unmeasurable devices within electrical substations. This innovation comprises a universal network of sensors based on AI and IoT technologies. These sensors evaluate conditions within substations and provide real-time alerts, enabling effective data processing and immediate responses to potential risks. By shifting from reactive problem-solving approaches to proactive maintenance strategies, this feature significantly enhances reliability in energy supply and extends the lifespan of equipment.

In support of its goal to foster knowledge sharing, Huawei organized the IDS Rump Session at CIRED 2025, supported by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This event highlighted Huawei's practical experiences and collaborations with partners in facilitating customers' digital and intelligent transformation journeys within distribution networks. As a longstanding advocate for international energy distribution standards, Huawei contributed to the 5th meeting of the IEEE P 2413.2 working group. The meeting aimed at promoting the standardization and international development of the energy sector, addressing critical technical challenges related to medium-voltage backhaul networks and the transparency of low-voltage 400V infrastructures.

Conclusion

By introducing these new IDS features, Huawei demonstrates its commitment to driving technological innovation and expanding practical applications within the energy distribution sector. The aim is to empower customers to manage 400V low-voltage devices transparently and efficiently, paving the way for more robust and intelligent distribution networks in the future. As digital transformations continue to redefine the energy landscape, Huawei remains at the forefront, leading the charge towards smarter, more resilient electricity networks.
