Polyplastics Expands its Product Range with New DURAFIDE® PPS Grades
Polyplastics Co., Ltd., a prominent figure in the engineering thermoplastics industry, has unveiled two groundbreaking grades of DURAFIDE® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). These advancements are specifically designed with mechanically recycled content, showcasing the company's commitment to sustainability. The DURAFIDE® rG-PPS 1140A1R00 and 1140A1R30 grades are reinforced with 40% glass fibers and incorporate 100% and 30% recycled glass fiber content, respectively. These new offerings are expected to hit the market within the coming months.
This initiative is part of Polyplastics' ambitious DURACIRCLE® program, which aims to close the loop in engineering plastics, striving towards 100% material circularity. The creation of these grades results from a meticulous re-compounding service that utilizes process scrap sourced from customers, conducted under the company’s “Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme.” This innovative scheme enhances the recycling process by sourcing high-quality glass fiber-reinforced PPS scraps from partner firms that adhere to stringent standards.
The process begins with efficient collection and thorough inspection of the scraps, followed by sorting and reformulation. These materials are then compounded under optimal conditions, mirroring the rigorous quality assurance protocols applied to virgin materials. Polyplastics plans to distribute these new materials through its extensive global sales network, although current collection efforts are focused on specific grades of glass-filled DURAFIDE® PPS materials.
In expanding its re-compounding business, Polyplastics recognizes the crucial need to innovate new applications and establish reliable collection routes. The company envisions a collaborative effort, not just with existing customers, but also with firms across various waste-to-value sectors. This strategic expansion aligns with their vision to locally produce and consume recycled materials, creating sustainable recycling chains tailored to specific countries and regions.
As consumer demand for sustainable products surges, Polyplastics is keen on introducing additional mechanically recycled PPS grades, responding promptly to market needs. Their strategy encompasses extending the diversity of constituent materials, including post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. This effort aims to bolster the supply capacity of reliable, high-quality recycled materials, further minimizing environmental impact while satisfying a varied customer base.
Polyplastics boasts over six decades of experience in engineering thermoplastics, maintaining an impressive market presence for products like POM, PBT, PPS, LCP, PET, COC, and LFT. Their commitment to research and development, as well as robust production and sales resources, empowers them to create advanced solutions that cater to a constantly evolving global marketplace. With the introduction of the new DURAFIDE® grades, Polyplastics continues to reinforce its position as a leader in engineering thermoplastics while championing sustainability and innovation in the industry.
