SEED's Konosu Research Institute Expands Production Capacity
SEED Co., Ltd., headquartered in Bunkyo, Tokyo, is excited to announce the completion of its new building at the Konosu Research Institute, aimed at significantly boosting its contact lens production capacity. Scheduled to commence operations in March 2026, this new facility enables SEED to further develop its manufacturing capabilities in response to rapidly growing demand for contact lenses both domestically and internationally.
Background of the Expansion
With the ongoing increase in demand for contact lenses, SEED has prioritized modernizing its manufacturing operations. This latest addition will facilitate a transition in production methods through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which aims to lessen manual labor requirements while maintaining high output quality. The first phase of this expansion is expected to increase the maximum monthly production capacity from 65 million to 79 million lenses, eventually reaching 89.5 million lenses after the second phase.
Employee-Centric Wellbeing Areas
In addition to enhancing production capabilities, the new building also introduces modern welfare facilities within the campus. Employees can look forward to a new dining area and lounge, designed to provide a refreshing and relaxing environment. Both spaces feature a beautiful and natural aesthetic, developed after consulting with employees through surveys.
The lounge area, located on the second floor, features a light and airy decor reminiscent of California's vibrant atmosphere. It offers varied seating options, including communal couches and individual counter spaces. This setup allows employees to either socialize or enjoy some private time, with designed areas for relaxation and even a nap lounge for quick breaks.
The dining area on the third floor adopts a unique concept inspired by almonds, reflecting the company's brand identity. It boasts comfortable seating suitable for casual dining and conversations amongst coworkers, complemented by work-friendly furniture that accommodates desk tasks and meetings.
Enhancements to Facilities
Innovative Design Features
The restroom facilities have also been transformed, showcasing rounded tiles that resemble contact lenses, and color-coded to represent SEED’s flagship Pure series products. Each floor reflects a different product line color, enhancing the environment's visual appeal.
A Bright Future
By focusing on improving its production capacity and maintaining alignment with customer needs, SEED aims to enhance its market competitiveness. Currently, SEED operates in over 50 countries, primarily in Asia and Europe, emphasizing the quality of “Made in Nippon.” The company is committed to broadening its market presence and fostering a society where diverse visual experiences can co-exist.
