Japanese Mobile Construction Association Receives Governor's Commendation for Earthquake and Flood Relief Efforts

Commendation Ceremony for Disaster Response

On December 10, 2025, at the commemoration ceremony held by Ishikawa Prefecture in response to the earthquake and heavy rains that struck in 2024, the Japanese Mobile Construction Association (JMCA), headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, received a commendation from Governor Haji Hiroshi. The ceremony underscored the importance of collaboration among local businesses in the wake of natural disasters.

Among the attendees was Yoshihisa Tamada, the president of Tamada Co., which is located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. As the representative for the Northern Japan region, he accepted the commendation on behalf of the association. This recognition reflects the significant role that the JMCA and its member companies played during these challenging times.

Contributions to Disaster Relief

In the aftermath of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, Tamada Co. immediately took on the challenge of determining how local enterprises could best contribute to relief efforts. They utilized JMCA’s innovative off-site construction scheme to manufacture and supply box units from geographically dispersed factories across Japan. This flexible model allowed Tamada Co. to become a primary contractor in the local rebuilding effort, showcasing the adaptability and responsiveness of mobile construction technologies.

With these manufactured units, the company facilitated not only the creation of temporary housing but also the establishment of businesses and service sites for those affected. Despite the broader skills shortage in the construction sector, Tamada Co. exemplified how a regional firm can effectively engage in disaster recovery efforts through the mobile construction approach.

Moreover, the efforts of the JMCA were integral in supporting the “Ishikawa Model Housing” initiatives, which aim to provide platforms for victim self-recovery and reconstruction. This aligns with local government strategies and enhances overall community resilience.

A United Effort

The ceremony also highlighted the collaborative efforts of various member companies from across Japan recognized for their roles:
  • - Ichijo Komuten Co., Ltd. (Tokyo): Building temporary accommodation facilities.
  • - Create Rebum Co., Ltd. (Yamagata): Constructing emergency housing and provisional facilities.
  • - Standby League Co., Ltd. (Tokyo): Providing design information.
  • - Space Agency Co., Ltd. (Kumamoto): Erecting temporary facilities including accommodations and stores.
  • - Other Member Companies contributed significantly to the manufacturing of housing units, supply chains, and logistics management to ensure swift deployment in disaster scenarios.

This commendation serves as a precious reminder of how community-oriented companies can mobilize swiftly in emergencies. The approach adopted by the Japanese Mobile Construction Association and its partners provides a vital model for future disaster responses not just in Japan, but potentially in other areas facing similar challenges.

The Japanese Mobile Construction Association remains committed to its mission of supporting disaster recovery efforts, ensuring that lessons learned from past events continually inform and enhance future initiatives.
