A New Era for Aging Life Care Association

The Aging Life Care Association® (ALCA) has welcomed its new President, Nina Pflumm Herndon, MA, CMC, CLPF, CPG. As of January 1, 2026, Herndon stepped into this significant role, succeeding Steve Barlam, who remains as Past-President.

ALCA, a respected nonprofit organization, represents over 2,000 professionals in the field of aging life care across the United States. Herndon’s leadership aims to bolster community support and foster an innovative environment that addresses the varied needs of its members.

"In 2026, our focus will be on facilitating robust community initiatives, curated educational programs, and forward-thinking offerings that cater to the distinct phases of our members' careers in aging life care," Herndon stated. The theme for this year is Pushing Our Potential, signaling the intent to broaden the understanding of Aging Life Care professionals and their indispensable role in ensuring quality elder care.

Herndon is no stranger to the challenges of aging care; she brings 25 years of experience and profound commitment to elder care. As a Certified Care Manager and the founder of Sage Eldercare Solutions, she understands the importance of individualized care, emphasizing that every client deserves to be treated with dignity, engaging in relationships that are fulfilling.

Research conducted by Virginia Tech underscores the efficacy of Aging Life Care Managers in enhancing care coordination and alleviating caregiver stress. The study reveals that 99% of respondents would recommend the services provided by Aging Life Care Managers, reaffirming the positive impact these professionals have in the lives of older adults and their families.

Looking ahead, Herndon emphasizes a commitment to awareness and accessibility of Aging Life Care professionals. With a clear mission, she aims to ease the caregiving journey for families confronted with the complexities of aging.

The ALCA Board of Directors, comprising 11 members from diverse backgrounds, including the newly elected president, is also dedicated to supporting this vision. Key figures alongside Herndon include Lina Supnet-Zapata as President-Elect and Annette Murphy as Secretary Treasurer.

ALCA has been at the forefront of promoting dignified, coordinated care since its establishment in 1985, having served nearly two million older adults throughout its history. Members are rigorously vetted to ensure they meet high standards of education and experience and adhere to a strict code of ethics. This dedication reinforces the crucial role that Aging Life Care Professionals play in the national healthcare landscape.
