Chery Automobile Enhances Manufacturing with 98 Advanced AMRs in Kaifeng

Chery Automobile, a prominent name in the automotive sector, continues its journey towards automation and smart manufacturing with the recent deployment of 98 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at its Kaifeng Factory. This ambitious project marks a significant step in the evolution of automotive manufacturing, aligning with the company's vision in the era of smart mobility.

Background of the Initiative

This new deployment builds on Chery's earlier successful collaboration with ForwardX Robotics, Asia's leading provider of vision-based AMRs. The initiative aims to transform the final assembly process, facilitating a high level of intralogistics automation. The newly integrated AMRs cater to various logistics needs, from parts warehousing to material delivery and sequencing.

Key Components of the Deployment

Among the 98 AMRs, 83 are the Max type, designed for the effective transportation of both full and empty racks of automotive parts, while the remaining 15 are Lynx AMRs, specialized for complex tasks in the assembly environment. All these robots are efficiently integrated with the factory's existing Logistics Execution System (LES) and PDA-based material call systems, creating a seamless data flow throughout the production process.

Step-by-Step Smart Intralogistics

Chery's latest AMR deployment operates through a well-coordinated intra-logistics system that streamlines the manufacturing workflow:
1. Inbound Logistics: AMRs bring full racks of components to assembly lines, acting on requests triggered by the factory’s PDA system.
2. Empty Rack Returns: The robots are responsible for returning empty racks to designated sorting zones.
3. Sequencing Transfers: Pre-sorted parts are efficiently moved to specific stations for just-in-time assembly.
4. SPS Support: Lynx AMRs are dedicated to picking stations, optimizing the replenishment process by ensuring a closed-loop system that supports constant productivity.

Continuous and Efficient Operations

The AMRs operate continuously, round the clock, ensuring zero downtime. Their advanced vision-based navigation technology allows them to function without the constraints of magnetic tapes or fixed pathways, making them adaptable to frequently changing factory layouts. By running in parallel lanes and supporting two-way traffic, these robots effectively manage dynamic task assignments, crucial during peak production seasons.

Notable Impact on Production

Since integrating these AMRs, Chery has reported significant improvements in various operational metrics, including production response times and overall flexibility. The introduction of these robots has also elevated on-site safety, showcasing the effectiveness of smart automation within manufacturing environments.

Nicolas Chee, Founder and CEO of ForwardX Robotics, expressed pride in partnering with Chery to push the boundaries of smart manufacturing. The deployment underscores the adaptability and continuous production capability of their vision-based AMRs in high-demand automotive settings.

Looking Ahead: A Model for the Future

Following the notable deployment at Chery's Super One Factory in 2023, the advancements at the Kaifeng site reinforce ForwardX Robotics' reputation as a reliable automation partner. With these scalable intelligent AMR solutions now operational in one of China's leading vehicle production facilities, the vision for the next generation of smart automotive factories is clearer than ever.
