Japan Knowledge Space Recognized for 2026 Food Education Initiatives to Support Employee Welfare

Japan Knowledge Space Receives Prestigious Food Education Certification

In an impressive milestone, Japan Knowledge Space Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has been awarded the newly established 2026 Food Education Excellence Certification by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) on April 1, 2026. This marks the company's acknowledgment for its commitment to creating a healthy work environment through innovative welfare initiatives geared towards nutritional support for all employees.

The company resides under the guiding belief that "the health of workers is fundamentally shaped by management practices." Recognizing the realities of diverse working conditions in the IT sector—including remote work and client placements—Japan Knowledge Space has rolled out unique meal and nutrition assistance programs to ensure equitable benefits for all employees, regardless of their working conditions. These progressive efforts have also served as a response to the ongoing inflation crisis, effectively acting as a de facto inflation allowance to safeguard employee livelihoods.

Understanding the Food Education Excellence Certification

The Food Education Excellence Certification System is a fresh initiative established by MAFF aimed at recognizing companies that actively provide healthy meals and support improvements in eating habits among the workforce. The inaugural certification in April 2026 recognized 333 entities nationwide, emphasizing the program's commitment to fostering healthier diets for the working generation, particularly amidst rising eat-out costs.

Japan Knowledge Space has consistently showcased its dedication to health management, being recognized as a Bright 500 Company for four consecutive years by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This accolade underscores its focus on establishing a solid health management foundation within the framework of employee welfare.

The Three Pillars of Welfare Initiatives

Amidst a workforce of many IT engineers who predominantly work from home or at partner companies, the potential inequities of traditional workplace cafeterias or deli services became evident. Consequently, the firm developed a trio of programs to ensure nutritional support:

1. Virtual Cafeteria - Ticket Restaurant (Launched January 2023)
This service provides virtual meal vouchers redeemable at over 250,000 convenience stores, restaurants, and popular chains nationwide, including delivery options like Uber Eats. Catering to an all-inclusive work approach, employees can enjoy a snack, salad, or a meal of their choice anytime, removing disparities caused by varied work settings.

2. Loss-Health Fresh Vegetable Delivery Service (Set to start September 2024)
To counter the frequent vegetable shortage faced by busy IT professionals, this program will deliver approximately 5kg of fresh, imperfect vegetables monthly—gratis—directly to employees’ homes. Utilizing vegetables not suited for market sale due to cosmetic imperfections, this initiative promotes healthy eating while playing a crucial role in reducing food waste, thus aligning with SDGs.

3. Rice Purchase Subsidy Program (Will be implemented June 2025)
Addressing the rising costs of essential groceries, particularly rice, this new initiative subsidizes the purchase of rice up to ¥10,000. This measure alleviates the financial burden on employees and their families, offering economic relief akin to increased take-home pay and supporting their household budget stability.

Looking Ahead: Innovations in Employee Benefits

Not resting on their laurels, Japan Knowledge Space plans to further enrich the employee experience with a new benefit titled Meat Reward Subscription Service, set to launch on April 1, 2026. This program will deliver direct to homes premium domestic meats quarterly, transforming everyday acknowledgments of employee contributions into tangible rewards that foster family time and encourage employee engagement.

A Statement from CEO Ryuko Matsuoka

CEO Ryuko Matsuoka remarked, “Our office is remarkably modest. We focus on minimizing overhead and diverting those resources back to our employees in the form of enhanced salaries and benefits. Our mission centers around changing the engineering work environment in IT fundamentally, which has led us to establish over 70 different welfare initiatives. The recognition from MAFF as a Food Education Excellence Corporation underscores our commitment to supporting our employees' lives holistically. We aim to transform every employee into an integral asset and aspire to create a truly valuable firm where individuals can work healthily and securely for the long haul.”
