Education Cannot Wait Announces Significant Funding for Flood-Affected Children in Pakistan

On November 7, 2025, Education Cannot Wait (ECW) unveiled a crucial emergency funding initiative totaling $2 million to address the pressing educational needs of children impacted by catastrophic monsoon flooding in Pakistan. This initial grant is set to aid 34,483 students through a collaboration with the Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) and various local and national organizations, including the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), and PAGE Foundation.

Education assessments indicate that over 367,000 school-aged children currently lack access to education in districts ravaged by flooding, with damage reported in more than 1,800 schools. To mitigate this crisis, RSPN has expressed its commitment to working closely with ECW and Pakistani authorities to ensure that all children, particularly girls, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and those with disabilities in regions such as Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, and Swat, receive safe, inclusive, and quality education.

Bashir Anjum, the Chief Operating Officer of RSPN, stated, "We take pride in our ongoing collaboration with Education Cannot Wait and the government of Pakistan. This partnership seeks to empower communities in these districts by building resilient educational systems, restoring hope, and encouraging children to return to learning in a safe and supportive environment. Together, we are transforming dreams into opportunities and education into a lasting promise for the most vulnerable."

This locally-led assistance will provide life-saving educational support to 34,000 boys and girls in flood-affected provinces of Pakistan. The educational assessments reveal that hundreds of thousands of children are currently missing out on their right to education due to the destruction caused by natural disasters. The ECW's investment will facilitate the restoration of damaged schools, the establishment of temporary learning spaces, and the provision of inclusive and gender-sensitive teaching materials. Additionally, it will focus on rehabilitating water and sanitation facilities and implementing protective measures to safeguard children's well-being.

These interventions align with the Pakistan Humanitarian Response Plan and complement the ongoing ECW Anticipatory Action pilot project, which previously deployed resources in preparation for the flooding.
