Kia Establishes a New Future PBV Production Hub in Korea
On November 14, 2025, Kia Corporation marked a significant milestone in its journey towards innovative automotive solutions by inaugurating the Hwaseong EVO Plant East and commencing construction of the EVO Plant West at AutoLand Hwaseong, located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. This advanced facility is set to play a pivotal role in the company's ambition to develop the next generation of Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technologies.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of key figures, including Prime Minister Min-seok Kim and other dignitaries. During the event, Kia highlighted its commitment to creating a dedicated ecosystem for customized vehicle production, emphasizing eco-friendly technologies that align with global demands for sustainability.
Kia plans to invest approximately KRW 4 trillion into this project, covering an expansive area of about 297,000 square meters. This substantial investment will enable a combined annual production capacity of 250,000 PBV units, breaking down to the production of 100,000 units of the PV5 model at the EVO Plant East and 150,000 units including the PV7 at the EVO Plant West. These strategic hubs are designed to enhance Kia's global expansion efforts within the PBV sector, bolstering its position in the increasingly competitive automotive market.
As part of its ambitious strategy, Kia also announced the establishment of a PBV Conversion Center aimed at co-developing specialized PBV models in collaboration with strategic partners. This initiative aims to foster a collaborative environment that enhances innovation and customization in vehicle design, positioning Kia at the forefront of industry trends.
Ho Sung Song, President and Global CEO of Kia, spoke about the importance of leveraging electrification in light commercial vehicles as a core aspect of Kia's future business. He expressed the company’s dedication to becoming a trusted partner in achieving sustainable mobility solutions, not just for Korea, but globally.
The Prime Minister, during his remarks, underscored the significance of advancement in the automotive sector, particularly in embracing technologies like electrification, autonomous driving, and artificial intelligence. This development is not only a testament to Kia's forward-thinking approach but also a valuable contribution to the broader automotive industry in Korea as it enters a new era of innovation.
In summary, the establishment of the Hwaseong EVO Plant East and the groundbreaking for EVO Plant West mark a decisive step forward in Kia's trajectory towards becoming a leader in the next-gen vehicle market. The company is well-positioned to address the evolving needs of consumers and the environment, ensuring a sustainable future for the automotive industry and its stakeholders.
