CAMPFIRE and Roadside Stations Collaboration: A New Era of Community Revitalization
In a groundbreaking initiative, CAMPFIRE, Japan’s largest crowdfunding platform, has teamed up with the National Roadside Station Association. This partnership aims to transform roadside stations across the country into vibrant hubs for nurturing local industries. Launching this project just in time for the upcoming ‘Roadside Station Day’ on April 22, 2026, the two organizations have unveiled a special crowdfunding page to support this venture.
The Evolution of Roadside Stations
Roadside stations are evolving with the support of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Transitioning from mere rest stops and information centers (Stage 1) to destinations in their own right (Stage 2), these stations are now stepping into a pivotal role in fostering regional development (Stage 3). This transition is driven by integrating CAMPFIRE's expertise in storytelling and community engagement with the steadfast local dedication represented by roadside stations.
With a network of 1,231 roadside stations as of December 2025, the collaboration aims to redefine traditional direct sales, positioning these stations as essential facilities for cultivating local industries and supporting regional challenges.
Objectives of the Initiative
The crowdfunding model will leverage stories from creators and local producers to garner support from a national audience. This initiative will help sustain the growth of local industries by introducing the approach to roadside stations across Japan. Participating stations will search for hidden gems, from local delicacies to traditional crafts, heightening awareness and encouraging pre-launch engagement with fans nationwide. Educational workshops and events will promote understanding of crowdfunding among producers and local governments, aiming for broader national implications.
