Greater Than Tech: A Milestone in Empowering Future Leaders
In the vibrant city of San Diego, Greater Than Tech (GTT) is celebrating a significant achievement: five years of transforming the lives of youth through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and entrepreneurship. Launched in 2019, this nonprofit has stood at the forefront of advocating for diversity and inclusion within the tech landscape, focusing primarily on girls and underrepresented youth.
Impact Over the Years
Over the past five years, GTT has successfully reached more than 1,500 students with its innovative and immersive programs which combine technology, creativity, and essential business skills. The recently released 2024 Annual Impact Report shows that in just the last year, GTT engaged 450 students. It also highlighted a substantial expansion of its alumnae network, now encompassing over 200 members. Remarkably, 70% of participants expressed a newfound interest in pursuing careers in STEM upon completing their programs.
Jasmine LeFlore, Co-Founder and Executive Director of GTT, articulated the foundation’s vision: "This milestone is proof of what's possible when the community invests in equity for all students. Our San Diego community continues to show what sustainable innovation can look like when people invest in the power of access, mentorship, and belonging.” This ethos forms the backbone of GTT's mission, fueling its growth and community support.
Community and Collaboration
In 2024, GTT observed a commendable 37% increase in individual donations. Collaborations with industry leaders such as Quartus Engineering, General Atomics, and the University of San Diego have deepened, fostering an environment ripe for student success. These partnerships are pivotal in developing a diverse pipeline of talent, setting a precedence for what can be achieved when educational organizations collaborate with the business sector.
The 2024 Impact Report introduced a three-tier programming model that encompasses Community, Career, and Alumnae Club. This structure not only facilitates student growth but also emphasizes long-term workforce development. The programs range from robotics and AI workshops to entrepreneurship incubators, preparing students not merely to grasp technology but to lead innovations within it.
Looking Ahead: Tech Over Tapas Fundraiser
As GTT gears up for its third annual "Tech Over Tapas" fundraiser scheduled for January 2026, the organization aims to gather supporters and community partners to celebrate its achievements and outline ambitious plans for the future. This event promises to be an inspiring gathering focused on innovation, inclusion, and investment in the tech-savvy leaders of tomorrow.
