Heroic Nursery School Teachers in Tokyo Recognized for Lifesaving Actions

Heroines of the Community: Tokyo Nursery School Teachers Save Lives

In a remarkable display of quick thinking and courage, two nursery school teachers from Poppins Nursery School Sakura Shinmachi, operated by Poppins Education Inc., were awarded a letter of appreciation from the Tamagawa Fire Station for their instrumental roles in a lifesaving effort. This recognition came after they assisted in a rescue operation alongside local residents, demonstrating the profound impact of community collaboration in times of crisis.

The incident occurred in late July when the two educators, while returning home, encountered a group of local residents engaged in emergency rescue efforts. They quickly joined forces with those at the scene, providing crucial interventions such as CPR and assistance in summoning an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Their timely actions ensured that the individual, who had collapsed, received immediate medical attention before the arrival of an ambulance. Thankfully, the individual survived due to the collaborative efforts of the teachers and community members.

Voices of Valor: The Teachers Reflect

Reflecting on their experience, one of the teachers remarked:
“My prior experience and the lifesaving training I had received gave me the confidence to act calmly in a stressful situation. Working together with local residents was vital, and I believe that our collective efforts saved a life. I cherish these connections and will continue to support the growth of the children in our care.”

The other teacher shared similar sentiments, stating:
“Having taken the lifesaving training transformed my mindset from being a bystander to stepping forward as a rescuer. The support from neighbors was reassuring, and I believe our combined strengths led to a successful outcome. I intend to keep pursuing lifesaving education to be prepared for any situation that may arise.”

A Culture of Preparedness

Every staff member at Poppins Nursery is required to undergo lifesaving and first aid training annually. This commitment includes not only teachers but also nutritionists and nurses working within their 320 nurseries across Japan. The training covers vital skills such as CPR, AED usage, and first aid techniques, ensuring that all employees are equipped to handle emergencies effectively. Their proactive approach aims to foster a safe and secure environment for the children.
