Supporting Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases
In a groundbreaking initiative, the Japan Cardiovascular Association is set to host a seminar focused on helping patients with cardiovascular diseases manage their treatment alongside their professional responsibilities. With a variety of cardiovascular issues ranging from congenital heart defects to sudden incidents like myocardial infarction, it is vital for both patients and employers to navigate the delicate balance between health and work life.
Many individuals with chronic health conditions possess the capability and desire to work, yet often find themselves barred from employment opportunities or faced with challenges in sustaining their roles due to a lack of understanding from employers. This lack of awareness can lead to missed opportunities for both patients and organizations, especially considering that companies are increasingly required to hire individuals with disabilities. By 2026, the disability employment rate is expected to rise from 2.5% to 2.7%, posing additional challenges for HR departments.
Understanding the nuances of cardiovascular illnesses is essential for creating a supportive work environment. Employers need to recognize not only the medical aspects but also the emotional and psychological barriers that patients face while trying to maintain their careers. Therefore, bridging the gap between the challenges faced by patients managing their health and the concerns of companies regarding disability employment is the core aim of this seminar.
The seminar will provide a comprehensive overview in just two hours, featuring discussions from various experts:
- - Dr. Takuya Abe, President of the Working Group for Employment Support, will open the session with introductory remarks.
- - Chairpersons Yuya Yamano from YUMINO Medical Corporation and Tomoko Ishizu from Tsukuba University’s Cardiology Department will lead discussions on the current challenges companies encounter when hiring individuals with disabilities.
- - Tsuyoshi Moriya from Keio University’s Graduate School of Management will discuss pivotal points for assisting patients with cardiovascular conditions in balancing treatment and work responsibilities.
This seminar presents a unique opportunity for HR professionals and any individuals interested in the topic to gain insights into disability employment and patient support frameworks. Participants will not only learn valuable information but can also become part of a network of partner companies involved with the Japan Cardiovascular Association, enhancing their commitment to inclusive employment practices.
