Hyundai Teams Up with Lurie Children's for Child Safety Initiatives in Chicago
Hyundai's Commitment to Child Safety in Chicago
Hyundai Motor America recently held its fourth child safety seat check in collaboration with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago at the McGrath City Hyundai dealership. This event is part of Hyundai's ongoing commitment to community welfare through its corporate social responsibility initiative, Hyundai Hope.
During the event, Hyundai proudly announced a generous donation of $50,000 to Lurie Children's Hospital, aimed at supporting their Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program. This program is instrumental in providing families with crucial knowledge and resources, ensuring the safety of children on the roads. "Hyundai is dedicated to the safety of our customers and the broader community," stated Cole Stutz, Hyundai's Chief Safety Officer. "Lurie Children’s is an important institution that positively influences the lives of many children and families. Our collaboration helps us educate caregivers and promotes safe practices in transporting young passengers."
Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that improper installation of car seats is a prevalent issue, with nearly 50% of car seats being misused. Properly used child safety seats have been shown to reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants under one year old and 54% for children aged 1-4 years. This highlights the necessity of such initiatives as a means of enhancing child safety on the road.
At the McGrath City Hyundai dealership, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) performed thorough inspections of car seats, evaluating them for correct installation, expiration dates, and recalls from manufacturers. Parents and caregivers received valuable education on the correct use of child safety seats. In some instances, families were provided with free replacement seats, showcasing Hyundai's commitment to community support. Amy Hill, Director of Unintentional Injury Prevention Programs at Lurie Children's, emphasized the significance of these safety checks, stating, "A quick car seat check can mean the difference between life and death in a crash. We see firsthand daily how proper installation makes a difference in protecting kids."
Since the initiation of their partnership in 2022, Hyundai has contributed a substantial $200,000 to the Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program. This initiative not only provides car seat checks but also offers community and virtual classes that educate families about child passenger safety, pedestrian safety, and the importance of bicycle helmets. In the previous year, Hyundai's efforts led to the distribution of over 1,000 new car seats and the education of over 2,000 families on child safety.
