ANSI Releases October 2025 Gaps Progress Report Supporting EV Standardization Efforts

ANSI October 2025 Gaps Progress Report: A Crucial Step Toward Electric Vehicle Standardization

On October 30, 2025, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) published a significant progress report detailing advancements in electric vehicle (EV) standards and infrastructure across the United States. This report serves a dual purpose: to drive the safe and wide-scale adoption of EVs and their supportive infrastructures while ensuring that stakeholders are aligned on the gaps requiring attention.

What the Report Covers

The October 2025 Gaps Progress Report highlights the ongoing efforts of various standard developing organizations (SDOs) and industry stakeholders who have been actively working on filling the gaps identified in the 2023 Roadmap of Standards and Codes for Electric Vehicles. This roadmap was initiated by the ANSI Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (EVSP), and it laid the groundwork by identifying 37 standardization gaps necessary for accelerating EV adoption. Key focus areas include vehicle systems, charging infrastructure, grid integration, and cybersecurity.

Categories of Gaps Identified

Among the 37 gaps identified, the distinctions made by priority level are telling. Out of these, 14 were classified as high priority, 20 as medium, and only 3 as low priority. Furthermore, 23 instances called for additional research and developmental activities, underlining the complexity of the tasks ahead. The meticulous participation of representatives from 130 public and private organizations showcases a collective responsibility toward creating a robust framework for EV adoption.

The Evolution of the Report

The uniqueness of this Gaps Progress Report lies in its non-consensus nature. It is designed to be a
