Kappa Sushi's Educational Initiatives in Natori City
Kappa Sushi, part of the Kappa Create Co., Ltd. headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa, has taken significant steps towards environmental education through its recent participation in the "Environmental Fair IN Natori Trail Center." This event, held on October 13, 2025, was aimed at instilling an understanding of the connections between forests and oceans in local elementary school students.
About the Initiative
The workshop was a collaborative effort under the partnership agreement with the city of Natori, where Kappa Sushi sought to contribute to both local society and the promotion of sustainable practices. The fair itself, which emphasizes coexistence with nature, provided a platform for various environmental learning programs.
Kappa Sushi's program, titled "Connecting Forests and Seas: Sushi-Making Experience," focused on educating children about the relationships between the environment and their food choices. The goal was to enhance their awareness of sustainability while simultaneously engaging them in a fun, hands-on experience.
On that day, about 40 local elementary students participated. The workshop included sushi-making experiences, where the children not only made sushi but also learned about the nutrients found in fish and environmental issues related to our oceans.

Program Highlights
Environmental Learning: Connecting Forests and Seas
The program began by engaging students with questions about the habitats of sushi ingredients, specifically the types of fish they commonly eat. Through quizzes, the children discovered the deep connections between fish found in rivers and oceans and the forests that influence their habitats.
Sushi-Making Experience
Children were then led through a hands-on sushi-making experience, marking an essential component of the workshop:
- - Handwashing: Students practiced the essential hygiene methods outlined by Kappa Sushi to ensure safe food handling before beginning their sushi preparations.
- - Sushi Preparation: They started by shaping sushi rice, imitating skilled instructors as they formed their sushi carefully, placing toppings while enthusiastically wishing, "Delicious sushi!"
- - Tasting Session: Students created five pieces of sushi, including popular choices like tuna, salmon, and tamago, as well as unique items like ikura and shrimp. Their faces lit up with smiles as they tasted the sushi they had crafted, exclaiming how tasty it was!
Student Feedback
- - "I learned for the first time how rivers, oceans, mountains, and forests are all connected! We should take care of nature to enjoy great fish!"
- - "Shaping sushi seemed simple, but it was quite difficult. I want to try making sushi at home with my family!"
- - "The sushi I made was absolutely delicious!"
