Domino's Pizza's Commitment to End Childhood Hunger
In a remarkable initiative, Domino's Pizza Inc. has announced a
three-year commitment of $1 million to No Kid Hungry, a campaign dedicated to combating childhood hunger in America. This pledge specifically aims to enhance access to summer meals for children who often rely on school meal programs when school is in session.
Russell Weiner, the CEO of Domino's, emphasizes the challenges many kids face during summer, stating, "While summer is typically seen as a period of joy and freedom, it can turn into a challenging time for children grappling with food insecurity due to the unavailability of school meals." This initiative is intended to provide essential nutrition for those children so they can enjoy their summer without the worry of hunger.
Addressing the Summer Meals Gap
The partnership with No Kid Hungry aims to bridge the gaps in meal accessibility that many children encounter during the summer months. Previously, only
2.8 million children had access to summer meals due to various obstacles, such as transportation issues. The initiative plans to launch programs such as Summer EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer), which will provide grocery benefits to families, and SUN Meals To-Go, designed to offer meal pick-up or delivery options, particularly in rural areas.
Anne Filipic, CEO of Share Our Strength, the organization spearheading the No Kid Hungry campaign, notes the potential impact of this collaboration. She states, “We have a historic opportunity to address the summer meal gap affecting millions of children across the nation.” With Domino's financial backing, significant resources will be allocated to enable local groups to provide crucial services, including mobile meal trucks and food packaging, making it easier for children to receive the nutrition they need.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Domino's commitment to reducing food insecurity extends beyond this new pledge. The company has long supported various hunger relief initiatives, establishing partnerships with organizations such as
GENYOUth, a leading national nonprofit dedicated to fostering children's well-being and promoting access to nutrition. Additionally, Domino's has collaborated with local hunger relief organizations in over
30 cities to bolster community efforts against food deprivation.
